I suppose that FBI investigations only happen under the direct involvement of the Director. Naturally, firing the Director would cause all pending investigations to be halted.

This would have to follow the assumption that the heads of LE agencies don't regularly provide input and directives to particular investigations that they consider noteworthy, or on the flip end, less deserving of attention. I don't believe you will find a seasoned member of LE, in the nation, that hasn't seen resources directed toward a particular investigation that they viewed as their "pet project," and away from what other think is a VERY important investigation, because the head of the department didn't think it was worth the time. LEOs, Counselors?

And, if the president has the Russia investigation on his mind, the only logical conclusion is that it is because of mens rea, and not because he has been speciously accused of involvement, and speciously linked to an FBI investigation that is based on nothing more than a Democrat party oppo research paper, and that has thus far shown absolutely no evidence of wrongdoing.

Your logical conclusion, is again pure conjecture.

And, knowing that Comey is likely the source of many, many previous leaks (acting in his role as a stooge of the Obama administration - again, serving at the pleasure of the president), perhaps Trump found it in Comey's best interests that Comey reconsider additional, future leaks (especially leaks of the untrue variety).

In fact Comey could have told a bald faced lie to the president telling him he wasn't investigated, and not run afoul of any legal issues. Unfortunately it seems Pre-Trump inappropriate behavior no longer applies in the Post-Trump world. That is at least for some. One can only hope the new poles are actually accurate and those who refer to him as an idiot and incompetent continue to grow and those few who call him a leader continue to shrink until they disappear.

I'm not sure what point you're trying to make. If the Russia investigation was merely Comey's pet project, with no support or merit apart from his efforts, then why should it continue? If, on the other hand, the investigation does have other merit or support, then it will continue.

There has been ample, documented evidence that the investigation is based on no actual evidence, and that Trump is not the focus of it.

Sorry, by "on the record", I meant "recorded". Poor choice of words. And I would assume that the recording in question would have been via phone, and not at that dinner. I would further assume that, if Trump has anything, it is more than Comey saying, "Of course you're not under investigation, Mr. President."

The vast number of candidates running during the primary which made it so the winner didn't need but a small percentage and then it's a matter of whether you vote for your party or the most hated person from a party which isn't yours. Not to mention that so many were upset with the status quo that they were willing to vote for anything even if it meant they voted for the abortion we have now. A narcissist with no morals who has no clue what he's doing or saying because he doesn't even read. Who thinks he can make big decisions on the spur of the moment based on a gut feeling that he often changes on a daily basis and who often claims he knows more and better than everybody else.
