AP achieved those stats with a washed-up Matt Ryan and a mediocre Gardner Minshew throwing to him.

Reggie Wayne had... wait, what was his name, again... throwing to him.

AP isn't a problem. AP has never been a problem. AR throwing to AP next year is going to be glorious.
It's a hope but not a foregone conclusion.

    Actually Pierce is WR3.

    Downs had way more targets.

But that’s partially because throwing downfield isn’t really part of Minshew’s game.
    No, sorry; that's not correct.

Downs is the slot receiver. MPJ was listed on the depth chart as starting LWR, and Pierce was listed as starting RWR.

LWR and RWR are WR1 and WR2. SWR is WR3.

Okay maybe technically on the depth chart.

But clearly Downs was WR2 this season. As in second best/second highest usage on the team.

When Steichen can return to the downfield attacking offense that he wants to run with Richardson, there’s no doubt in my mind that Pierce will thrive.

He may have been Minshew's second-favorite target (because he lacked the vision or throwing ability to hit AP deep reliably), but that doesn't make him WR2. Downs is a slot receiver, and lined up in the slot.

(Note that the current depth chart lists him on the outside, replacing MPJ, since MPJ is currently not under contract now that the season has ended.)

I listened to The Fan on radio while picking up the kids at school. The subject was Gus Bradley. Apparently, while having no "sack specialist" on defense, the Colts had more sacks this year than any year since the team came to Indy. Wow.

It's infuriating, really. The Colts got a ton of sacks, while at the same time couldn't consistently produce QB pressure when it was most needed.

Cooper Krupp was mostly a slot receiver the year he lit the league on fire.

Nobody would say he wasn’t WR1 on that team.

He was picked on combine numbers and potential alone. No regard for his injury history. I hope he can rise above that history but in the mean time secure a solid back-up.
What did AR play, four games? I'm not really sure what to think. He's certainly more athletic than Menshew, but to date, less durable. He has very little experience, his only year as a starter in college resulted in a 6-7 record. I don't really know what to expect from him if he stays healthy.

I watched him quite a bit in college and knew what to expect. He's also very young and can grow out of his injuries.

What does his injury history (accurate, meaningful, or otherwise) have anything to do with his throwing ability, and specifically, with his ability to make much better use of AP than Minshew can?

He has yet to stay on the field long enough to show that. He has shown the ability to take off running and receive big hits. That is going to have to change. Once again you are making assumptions from potential and not on the field actions.

I'm cheering for his success, I really am. His body of work so far is underwhelming. That could change for the better, but as is, he's underperformed. I accept you're championing his potential. Do you accept that he may not rise to franchise qb level, even healthy? I really don't know what to expect from him. He simply hasn't been able to play enough for me to give my expert opinion.
