I don't have any problem with people discretely saying grace in a public restaurant, but when athletes credit God/Jesus for their success, I do roll my eyes. So arrogant and narcissistic.
Giving the Glory to GOD is hardly arrogant nor narcissistic. How is saying God made me succesful and not myself either of those things? That is what they are doing, being HUMBLE before their Maker which is what all of us should be.
If you credit success to a greater power, then that power is responsible for failure as well.
I thank Him for all the good I receive but rather than blame Him for the bad I ask that He make me learn from this trial. He only disciplines those He calls His Own. I am thankful for even the stuff I consider bad as it helps me grow as a Christian.

Finally, I have seen more than a few videos of "famous" people giving credit for their success to having at least one demon in them. I have also seen a few videos of people who were BIG stars who have told what the insiders, like big agents and others who make people famous with their connections, asked of them and refused. They aren't big stars anymore because they don't get the parts offered to them nor do the songs the perform get that needed push to break into the charts. Can I say it is for real? No, but I do believe in demonic possession.

Whoa! Sorry I didn't check in over the weekend. Or maybe I'm not sorry!

My son is playing a travel sport this summer with kids from his Catholic school. Basically a select or all-star team. Since all the kids go to Catholic school, there's a team prayer before and after the game, usually right next to the field. People usually watch us, but everyone seems respectful.

Its kinda strange, though. Particularly the younger kids. They kinda stare.

I would like to take Que's position and expand into the following thought: There is nothing that anyone else's beliefs can do to adversely affect your temporal, spiritual, or philosophical position. Consequently, there is nothing here that demands a hostile response. It isn't like we are dealing with the Brady Campaign which is actively seeking to change our lives in a very negative way.

I would encourage everyone to remember that this is a great opportunity to expand our understanding of each other and to be presented with thoughts which when properly considered will either strengthen our resolve in our own beliefs or encourage us to grow in our own thoughts.

Please remember that freedom of thought is the freedom upon which all other freedoms rest, regardless of our opinion on our neighbor's thoughts.

Please know that we as Mods opened this up as an experiment.
We asked that it remain civil.
For the most part discussion has been very enlightening.
We are monitoring and even participating in the experiment.

As "Q" posted, keep it civil.
Remember this is just an experiment and not a reason to get angry or hateful.

Civility--A good idea no matter what the topic being discussed happens to be.

Now, if only we could have a rule requiring ON-TOPIC POSTS!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

(I keed, I keed. I'd probably be insta-perma-banned if such a rule were enforced.)

This is lost on too many online. It is far too easy to not be civil, and some don't want to make the effort to do so. I often shake my head at the things people post, and just as often rethink posting things I have typed. It is often better to click the Cancel button instead of the Post button and just let whatever it was go.

Oh yeah...there's been many times, I've had replies typed out and either cancelled it out or deleted it and started over. I'm sure there have been times some could point to where I didn't and probably should have.
