Who is the helper in John 14:16?

While 14:26 refers to the Holy Spirit, the same(greek) word is used in 14:16 and would you agree that it implies more than one helper?
God refers to the Holy Spirit a helper, which is the point - to help.

If God is both omnibenevolent and omnipotent then there must be ultimate universal salvation - there could be no hell.

It is blatantly obvious to me from reading the vast majority of both testaments that God is NOT omnibenevolent in the way that the author of this argument means it.

Not really I would say. The author alluded to that being the case IF one holds to Calvinism. However, Free will would actually say that Love will ultimately yield to what you truly desire.

Hence we can hope for universal salvation, but ultimately that decision is made one individual at a time.

John 14:16 - And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you.

How would you understand the word another in the above verse?

Christ was currently with them and He was their advocate while He was with them. He was with them and helping them, but He was saying that the Father will send the Holy Spirit, who will be in them and who will never leave them.

I had no idea that it was so difficult to get into heaven.
Think of all the disappointed souls that were turned away at the gates because they didn't do all those added things that man told them to do.

than man you refer to is Jesus. He is the one that told them to do all sorts of things. It is rather surprising that men rely on what other men say than what the Man said.

    Matthew 5-7
    Matthew 25 especially 25:31-46.

It is surprising how the plain reading of those passages gets explained away by men.

    Jesus was pretty straight forward.
It's my fellow man that went and scrambled it all up.

    It's not that hard.
It's not suppose to be that hard.
    Simplify.

So you don't believe you have to do anything Jesus said?

    Where does he say that?

Following the teachings of Jesus is simple, but not easy. The way that Christ wants us to be is not natural to us, which is why we need help. Jesus said that He is the gate, go through Him, but He also said that the way was narrow.
It IS hard to turn the other cheek and to not do to someone exactly what they did to you.

What are you referring to as difficult?

All the extra man made stuff that some religions tell us we need to do to get into heaven.
The fu-fu..... all the filler. You know.

All the extra bells and whistles and hoops to jump through that man has created.

Like Jesus does in Matthew 5-7 or 25?

Maybe you mean all the things Jesus says to do are not difficult and all the things found there are easy.

All the extra man made stuff that some religions tell us we need to do to get into heaven.
