Speaking of which, I tweaked the spreadsheet I use and it looks like we'll be in exponential growth for deaths (with ~145 days-to-double) into early December.
Of course, that's based on currently available numbers. If things get REALLY mitigated REALLY soon, then that won't happen. The timing looks really good for effective vaccines, though. Kinda in the nick of time.
Healthcare workers will get vaccines soon, but even those won't be effective likely until after the second dose, 30 days later.
I expect it will be summer before the general population can get both doses.
It's good to have the potential on the way, though.
It looks like the vaccines will be using healthcare workers as beta testers. Nothing can go wrong with that plan. 
I only ask. I discriminate between the two based on results.

As everyone should expect by now, the word from on high is that taking vaccines "isn't a get out of jail free card".
In other words you are going to have to take the vaccines but it isn't going to change anything.
I don't believe them for a moment. Of course taking the vaccines are going to enact changes on us because otherwise this wouldn't be done. The only question now is what all is being built into the injections.

I think it's important to keep perspective around some of the numbers we're seeing in the headlines, particularly locally.
Today's numbers are a perfect example. All of the local news channels are reporting 6k new cases and 63 additional deaths. You might think to yourself, "boy, that number sounds high. That's a lot of people dying in a day from COVID-19. Things are spinning out of control."
But then you look closer at the story and see this ...
So in reality that's an extra 63 deaths added to the running total but spread over 255 days. These are not new deaths, but people who have already died and now their deaths are being attributed to COVID. Yes it's sad, but it's basically adding 0.25 deaths per day over that time frame. Of course, presenting it that way doesn't generate nearly as many clicks as a headline claiming 63 new deaths, so we get the fear porn version every single day
In fact, FOX59 used to consistently have the reporting time frame details in their story, but they have started leaving that out of their reporting. You now have to go directly to the state dash board to see it.
Fortunately, WISH-TV does at least still keep the context when they post their updates.

ETA - I would think symptoms like coughing, hacking and sneezing would make one more contagious than asymptomatic people.
