Well, it looks like there's a bipartisan bill out there now. Crafted by Burr (R-douchebag) and Feinstein (D-would be tyrant) it's apparently in the system. It would force companies to comply with the Stasi whenever they want data from a device or account. Here's hoping this bill goes nowhere or that Obama sticks to his guns and vetoes it if it ever gets that far.

I can't find it but I could have sworn this morning I heard a clip of Obama sounding like he's more in favor of the anti encryption bill.

My favorite is that proponents are saying they aren't technically forcing tech companies to build in back doors while anyone who knows anything about technology is saying that's literally the only way to accomplish what the bill requires.

CGP Grey did a short video on Phones, Locks (physical and digital), etc... If you haven't checked out his channel, I'd recommend it. Very educational.

While true, I'm guessing it's a little bit of "Hey thanks for helping us, pal" and "We want to make sure we can do this as long as possible before Apple figures it out and fixes it"
Throw in a bit of spite at Apple not playing ball as well I'm sure.

It's my understanding that it's already fixed.

If the guys that cracked it were smart...... They sold the solution to Apple for another 3 million.

This story is unrelated to the Apple situation, but probably not enough for it's own thread. It does have to do with encryption, however.

What is INGO's opinion on this punishment?

Child porn suspect jailed indefinitely for refusing to decrypt hard drives

Man to remain locked up "until such time that he fully complies" with court order. Seems like a big 5th amendment situation.

a forensic examiner who testified that it was his "best guess" that child pornography was on the drives,

Using "best guess" for indefinite detention should be a crime itself.

Yes it should. Our government misbehaves regularly and usually gets away with it.

Contempt of court is what happens when you defy a court order. This isn't exactly new.
