I've got a Morrell yellow Jacket bag target now and it appears to be holding up well. If price isn't a consideration look into a Rhineheart target. Google it I probably didn't spell it correctly.

Hey guys, what would you recommend for a guy wanting to get into target archery?

Guy at work says Bowtech Specialist 2012, and a bunch of Spot Hog?<not sure if thats what he said> accessories.

Do I just walk into a shop, say "Hey, size me up for one of those" and go for it?

    No idea where to start.

That actually is a good start Dom. Go and shoot several different bows and see what you like.

I've shot Hoyt's, Bowtechs, and Matthews but seem to feel most comfortable with PSEs.

I really like my Bear bow. Under 500.00 bucks, shoots hard and is quiet. They have really great customer service.

Can't recommend anything, as I prefer a single pin mover sight, like an HHA (but with horizontal pin, .019"..............I swapped in a Viper 3 pin sight front and yanked two of the pins- worked great :)

Close to 200 retail for that setup.

If you were closer ,I'd make you a good deal on a Hoyt Supertec. Flat shooting bow out to 30 yds. Short, making it good for stand hunting. Very Accureate.
I tore a rotory cup and dont think I can pull it back/without reinjuring my shoulder.

Got my Dorado riser. Sharp edges at outer points of shelf (gonna have to grind it).
Lancaster got Tradtech Black Max wood/glass limbs in, received my pair of short 50# this week. Pressed out ILF bushings and used 3/8" bronze bushings to adapt to the .260" dia. riser pins. Had to sand a bit from the ILF bushing hole, and drill the bronze stuff out 17/64"
    (that supposedly .265" dia.).

They deformed a bit in the vise, but I was able to walk pliers around and get them back into shape (within a couple thousandths). Cut the flange off with Dremel, sanded to look nice and even, pushed 'em in.

Make insulator pads for the limbs, grind/repaint riser and slap on a rest........shoot it tomorrow. Will scale it and see what it hits, limb number shows 50+, but that for 17" riser so I should lose 2# being on a 19".

No workbench until I move, kids have crap everywhere and don't clean...............frustrating. Got it done and nice too, but my nerves are fried. I hate sweating out a project, prefer a cold beer, no interruptions and a nice clean bench.............like I used to have :(

Got my Bowtech assassin dialed in at 20, 30, and 40 yards. Only a little bit more than a month to go!! I feel like it is going to be a great season here in Southern Indiana.

    Man what a PITA.

De-horned my Dorado riser's outer shelf, was sharp edged.

Made limb pads from rubber/cork automotive gasket material, seems to be OK.

Brace was recommended 7-8". At 7" my bow hit 51#@28". Just thumping string and such the thing is noisy. Checked web, folks with them say brace should be 8". OK, I usually set mine at top end or a little above.

Bearpaw flemish from Tradtech is for a 60" AMO and that is what my bow is. Fastflite material. Man I had to put a lot of twists in it. Seems like too many, just by looking, dunno.

Brace is at 8" now. Shooting will drop it (and need more twists). I did stress it to stretch it some.

Can't find my last set of Wooly Whispers dangit.

Bow is short enough, but ILF shorts on a 19" riser means 29" draw is max. Thing seems to be around 55#, or more. Off to the shop to check.

(that means the next set of limbs will be 45# mediums LOL).

Oh yeah, made a sideplate from .090" Kydex. Is up against riser under tension at front, so if I go longer bolt/nut I can adjust it out if need be.

Time to add carpet and shoot this pig! Yeah you can see where I de-horned the sharp riser edges. Maybe paint it, maybe not, I'll just rub it off carrying it anyway.

Finally got my bow into the bow shop for a tune-up tonight. 12 years ago I bought a Hoyt Razortec and have used it faithfully harvesting many deer along the way. It's time and I can't wait to shoot my reborn Hoyt! :rockwoot:

absolute noob to the archery world and I realize this is going to open a can of worms, but..........
I was told I need to look at 125 grain heads because my bow is older and shoots slower ( I'm ok with that). So what direction should I be looking? I've been told muzzy. I kind of like the idea of a fixed head, less to go wrong i guess. Any other ideas? I do realize it's like guns, shot placement is everything. Just want something reliable and sharp. I've also been warned not to trust the factory edge. Any truth to that?

    125gr G5 Striker I like.
Cut myself trying to get one of the little bast*rds out of the packaging.
    Wicked sharp.

Old school fixed blade "traditional" heads like Zwickeys and Snuffers are to be sharpened by the owner before use.

New replaceable blade stuff, unless junk, should be plenty sharp.

Muzzys have put a lot of critters down. My buds use 'em and like 'em too. Not as expensive as some others.

There are a lot of good fixed blade heads available. You could try the Slick Tricks, the NAP Thunderhead, or Muzzys. I have heard some good things about the QAD Exodus, I might pick up some of them and see how they fly.
