YES but Taurus is s decent gun for the money.

I have a Taurus for my "car" gun. It would defend me if I needed it to and if it gets a little beat up in the car or if someone broke in and stole it, so be it. For my S&W's, I keep them locked up except when I take them shooting. I'm not afraid to use them, but I wouldn't want to lose one of them either. If I have to defend myself, I would rather send the Taurus with the police for evidence than one of my Smith's.

I've been shooting a .357 S&W Model 686 revolver and it is hard to beat - period! These revolvers will usually outshoot and outgun most any pistol especially at longer ranges. Go ahead and try to shoot a wild hog at 25-50 yards with your 9mm auto? The pig will shrug it off. Try it with a heavy load .357 magnum; say a handloaded 180gn Hornady XTP over a stiff load of 2400 and the pig goes down! Get a 6" S&W 686 .357 magnum and let the fun begin.

Hunting is a different matter, but with today's advances in powders, 9mm can just about keep up with 357 magnum in the light weights.

But yea, I usually run 180gr hardcast over a VERY stout load of 2400. It drills nice little holes in just about anything I've attempted shooting.

    Like 2ft of solid oak.

Also worthless without a picture, so here's the 357 slinger.

As light as it is, it's a bit uncomfortable to shoot all day. My record so far was 250 rounds in a day of those loads mentioned.

I had a 586 6" a long time ago and sold it. Now I am back in the market though it pains me to pay probably close to double what I sold mine for. I also have a Model 617 with a 4" barrel. I was thinking this time around going with a 4" version to match my 617.

    What do you guys think?

I would use this for target and IDPA revolver class and maybe some ICORE.

You will want to stay with 4" if you shoot IDPA as that is the maximun barrel length they allow for a revolver even though a autoloader can have a barrel longer than 4" :dunno: I remember why I don't shoot IDPA now.:D

I have a Dan wesson .357 with a 6 inch barrel and adjustable sights. I have to agree, the fireball is awesome and gets everyone's attention nearby. It holds a fond place in my heart, I call her Beulah. Definitely worth getting your hands on one to shoot if not own.

I shoot more .357s out of my Rossi 92 and 77/357 now than my S&W 19.

you don't want to shoot too many .357 rounds out of a 19, or the 66 (stainless steel model).....it will stretch the frame too much. That is why Smith came out with the 686, it beefs up the frame. The 686 is a great gun, but it doesn't carry as well as the 66 or the 19. :)

If yo can find one Coonen Arms (sp)made a look alike 1911 style in 357 Mag back in the 1980's. The grip was pretty long though. Also magnum Research is still making the Desert Eagel like they were when pushing some of theirs out in 357 in the late 1980's early 1990's.

    Here is the link http://www.coonaninc.com/products.php/pistol/cPath,5/osCsid,95fd005e53cc50d40bec7339821a5f8e

for Conoon Arms. Both are a lot of $$$$

With the S&W 8 shot N frames as a somewhat standard production item for under a 1,000 to just over a 1,000 (depending on a 4 or 5" barrel) that would be my pick but to each their own.

Colt Python (1966 production). 6" Nickel plate w/"massaged" trigger. Primarily use it to hunt with. Have taken two deer with it out to 75 yds.
