They really should approve cartridges that were developed before 1900 - that way I can get my "bigmedicine" 1895 .405 winchester into the tree stand next year. Note that there is no logic in my post, only passion :)
Could be interesting - I know Remington has a pretty extensive line of copper-solid shotgun slugs. They could extend the spectrum of loaded copper ammunition even further.
Even if you could put a scope on a Puma (and the only real option is their 'scout' mount), it just would not be right! Stick with a good peep site for the Puma. Marlin is hands down the better platform for optics.
Actually, I wasn't even referring to penetration at all - just the shock of 1 ounce of lead hitting someone at close range creates massive internal injury in and of itself (specifically, in reference to hitting a vest). However, you are exactly correct on individual pellet penetration being...
The whole issue of guns in your locked vehicle is a touchy one. As far as what is right (and what my rights are), there is obviously nothing legally wrong with having a gun in my vehicle. What worries me is all the obama-nuts that work at my company freaking out over guns in the first place...
Cabelas and Sportsmans Guide both have them in stock. I doubt anyomne around here will have ammo sitting on the shelf for something so new/specialized. Sorry the boyz at GM didn't make it more clear what that gun was shooting. Once you get some rounds, enjoy that new rifle! You also may want...
I am not sure it matters if you wear a vest or not - getting hit by an ounce of shot going ~1900 feet per second will homoginize your internal organs. The shock of the impact at close range can be just as deadly.
Couple of thoughts. First, and forgive the attitude, it doesn't really matter what you shoot - shot doesn't disperse very far in the distances "typically" seen in home defense situations. An ounce of shot, regardless of size, is a lethal force beyond belief. You are going to have a 6" cloud...
Dan Wesson CBOB's.. .45 ACP and 10mm. Had Novak adjustable rear sights fitted along with gold bead front sights - both shoot perfectly. .45 is in nightstand, 10mm in gunvault bolted to truck.
You know, for the kind of money that you are looking to spend, you should be able to snag a good used Browning Citori or Ruger Red Label. The Citori's are notorius for "breaking in" the more you use them. Rugers are built like a safe - no surprise. Just look for something that fits you and do...
FYI - you guys are 100% correct for price of factory ammo. I strongly suggest you start reloading - you can cut your costs tremendously! Another plus of getting a "plan" together for your weapons is some standardization of components. I now hunt with the same bullet out of my muzzleloader...
Both cartridges are more than adequate for deer. If you carry a side arm, you also can factor in your choice into your decision. My experience with my .454 is that it shoots very well with stout .45 colt rounds - so well that I primarily hunt with that now. Since I also carry a ruger .45 Colt...
Another option you may want to consider is the Smith & Wesson MP 15-22. The idea of being able to practice on the cheap with a full size setup sure has some appeal! Kick Brass - New M&P15-22 - Smith & Wesson Also, here is a comparison of the Colt vs the Smith. Interesting reading: Colt's AR...
