      Well said!

      Compact 1911 in 10mm?

You need to watch for 10mm CBOB from Dan Wesson. I love mine, especially for carry in the woods.

Does anyone make a "gun safe" for vehicles?

Console Vault also has a side variety of custom-fit options to consider. They are well made and will provide the necessary deterrence you are looking for. I think it is somewhat truck/SUV specific, but you can't tell anything is there until you lift up the lid. Console Vault | Buy Direct For...

taking the snap out of 40

This justifies the 10mm even more :). Sorry, just never thought that the Short and Weak had much snap.

      Tactical .22 Rifle

I love my 15-22. I actually went kinda/sorta crazy and put the same trigger in it as I have in my M&P 15 (a Wilson TTU). Now it is the perfect trainer for me.

      Advice on Elk Hunt

To be honest, I would rather you get a good budget rifle (Savage, Ruger American) or good used rifle and invest the cost difference in ammo. The name of the game is shot placement. I am not joking, but you would better served by putting a couple of hundred rounds through your rifle at the range...

The power of 10mm is calling to me. . .

Don't pass up a chance on a Dan Wesson 10mm. I have a CBOB and it is a great companion. I carry it whenever I am in the woods and it has a safe, secure spot in my truck. If you get one, you will be amazed at how flat they shoot at distance (compared to a .45ACP). Good luck in your quest!

      S&W AR 15

I've run mine pretty hard over the past 2 years. It has never let me down.

      Need advice for a rifle

I felt guilty leaving my old Winchester M70 in 30-06 sitting in the back of the gun safe. I worked up a 110 gr Speer hollow-point varmint round for it. Great to dance with the old girl again and really puts the hurt on 'yotes. If you reload, you can work up an equivalent for any of your bigger...

Suggestions for a quality lever action .22LR

+1 Very nice guns. I had a trigger job done on mine and it is (still) a thrill to shoot. Despite newer, more tactical toys, I still go back in time with my BL-22. I have no idea how many rounds have been through mine and it still is great.

      Good Rifle For Deer

The other benefit of different MLs is that you can use the same bullet as some of your handguns. The 45 cal 250 or 300 gr XTP-mag is cheap and can be used in sabots, 45 colts and .454 Casulls. Nice to have a "do-all" bullet!

      the .458

I do appreciate your post; I should have been more precise with my wording. Quite right on contender vs encore. My point was that I do believe that the average shooter can shoot an AR platform easier/more accurately than a encore (on the basis of sighting plane only). To your point, cartridge...

      the .458

Between the guy shooting a 30-06 out of his contender and the guy shooting his .458 SOCOM, I'll feel safer next to the actual rifle.

      Scoping a 9422

The 9422 should have a grooved receiver for mounts - please don't touch a drill! As Hookeye noted, you have several options; just don't skimp. A rifle that nice deserves good glass.

      Which 10mm pistol?

Look for a used Dan Wesson CBOB in 10mm. Great gun, great package. You can't beat a 1911.

      The dying caliber thread

They sure do. Browning still makes the Gold in 10ga as well as their BPS. Now, to each their own. that said, if you are looking for a tool to throw the biggest sized shot at geese, I still am convinced that the 10ga is a more appropriate platform than the long 12. Generally, the 10ga guns...
