I've only got 1 .45. It isn't anything fancy, just a Sistema 1927, but it works. Only things I'm sure aren't original are the grips and magazines.

My Dad was given a 1948 production C serial numbered 1911 when he graduated from St John's Military Academy in 1949. When I matriculated from the same school in 1978 I was given the old Colt, I have shoot it ever since. Be tough for me to ever have a gun that means more to me...

This. Purchased from DCM (CMP now) in 1962 for $25.00. Ithica slide on a Colt frame (U.S. Government rebuild). It now resides in my gun safe with 8 other 1911's.

Interesting they would go out of their way to install a M1911 trigger and hammer in an M1911A1, what arsenal stamps are on your pistol? The serial number falls in the 1944 Remington-Rand block of serials; 14711431-1609528, 138,098 total.

Good eyes! I added the trigger and hammer. The trigger because I have big hands and the longer reach for the trigger made the gun more comfortable to shoot. I retired from the USMC after 22 years and used the .45 to qualify everytime I had to. The hammer was just an added thought - it made it easier for me to lower the hammer after clearing the gun. Would have to dig the pistol out of the gun safe to look at the arsenal marks - I'm just to lazy to do that.

Look closer at the serial number - 1150712 is a Colt number - end of 1943.

I have a few 1911A1 variations, but this is my all time favorite.....the one my father carried in combat in France, Belgium, Germany and Austria.
Within the second photo is a picture of three soldiers; the one in the mddle is my father. The hand written description on the back is " Dec 31, 1944, somewhere in Belgium". Dad was in the battle know known as "Nordwind" soon after.

The pistol is now retired, but has a place of honor in my home, and in my heart.

Shot 1911's for years and have owned more than I can list. Got rid of all of them and now am an exclusive XD45 shooter. I have 2 of them one for match use and one for carry, nightstand duty. All due respect to the 1911 but the XD is a better platform.
Plus I shoot the XD better and for me that is paramount.
