Well, I've been a 1911 guy but I like the Ballester-Molina's I got because they seem to be rock solid. Also have a Star M-45 that's kind of like the '80s version of the XDS; a bit weightier though.
My EDC = CZ 97B, accurate, can be carried cocked and locked or DA first shot. Older models can escape the feeding problems by using Mecgar Witness 45 mags.
For the range, Kimber Stainless Gold Match (first series) Trigger is a little light for using as a carry gun but damn it's accurate.
The one that means the most to me = Epsylum's SA Lightweight Champion Operator. Take it to the range now and then in his honor. Will shoot head to head with the Kimber. He was right, probably the best carry gun but it is being saved for his brother and then my grandson.
I've got a 7.5" Ruger 3 screw Blackhawk .45 convertible and an Auto Ordnance 1911A1. I really like both of them but my favorite .45 is my beater Smith & Wesson Model of 1917 made in 1918.
