i agree with sentinelrepublic. Many ppl want to get a free ride. Free food, free money, free services, without even lifting a finger. The govt is at fault too, they rather feed the problem than actually fix it.

I know several ppl who have more than 2 kids and don't work AT ALL. And when my mom lost her job (they moved the company to Mexico) and my dad was in unemployment, they asked for food stamps and they only got a few mths worth of food stamps. Luckily some jobs opened and they where able to get back to work.

But i know of 1 person who actually sells her food stamps card to cash. They give her $60 cash for....$90 or $100 for grocerys. And i think the govt gives her like $300 in food stamps.

My parents where getting 180 or 200.

But this is the system we live in. Some of us work hard, and when we need help from the taxes we paid we get turned down because So&So was to lazy to find a job.

    Welcome to :patriot:

    I doubt we have 1mth. Minimum 2yrs, max 4yrs.

People know the govt is so corrupt and has gotten out of control. If they make any drastic moves, then they know the ppl will revolt. Although ppl DIDN'T revolt when they passed the "Super Committee of 12", but that's cause many Americans are to f-ing stupid to actually get their fat Mcasses to a computer and, forbid they get a headache, actually READ the bill.

London, the UK, Spain, France, Greece....i think italy...have all had riots on the streets. As well as the middle east. What about the US? Nope non. Why? Because we rather buy our food from a store and watch our football.

Sorry to digress and get off topic.

The riots occurring in Europe and elsewhere have several causes, none of which have much to do with our situation here. You seem to think folks overseas are rioting against their governments because of poor leadership, instead of for diverse causes such as islamic fundamentalism, anger at having their socialistic benefits cut (because the gov't can't borrow any more money), or totally manufactured "grievances" against the government designed to intimidate or undermine it.

At some point, our government will have to cut "entitlements" because we can no longer afford them. At that point we may see some riots, but I expect any "overthrow" of our government will take place at the ballot box - as it should.

WTF you got against Football? It's not even football season now, how can you possibly attribute the lack of reading this bill to football?

Americans have become lazy and dependent on government for a million reasons besides football... sure pro sports serve as another "pacifier" but to blame our lackadaisical ways on football is just malicious and misleading....

Yup . The way they count unemployed changed when they started to get into the territory that made the president's sad policies look bad. The real unemployment rate is closer to 17%.

Real unemployment rate higher than federal figures - MSN Money - New Investor Center

    ^^ This ^^

The amount of people on goververnment candy prescriptions exceeds 50 million.....
The country could burn for years untill all the government dependent people are rounded up or expired by their own savagry.

I'm going to need more bullets......;)

Sorry, but that is a crack pot website. It states the current US debt ceiling after the Aug 2nd agreement to be 14 +trillion. That is inaccurate as the US debt was already 14+ trillion BEFORE the Aug 2nd congressional agreement. The debt ceiling was raised another 2.7 trillion. So the resulting debt ceiling is in excess of 16 trillion. So as I said....it's a crack pot website.

Now we may have civil unrest by September (stock markets, austerity measures, crime due to poverty, lack of credibility in government, etc.).....but it won't be because the debt ceiling is already reached.

The debt limit was increased by 400 billion immediately after passing the increase. With another 500 billion available upon request of the president(50 days after passage of the bill). The last 1.5 trillion will be available after conditions and cuts are passed from the committee of 12.
My post and Zero hedges article are just pointing out that according the the US Treasury we do not have enough funds to make it to the 50 day mark for the additional 500 billion.

Wow, I get an entire month?

Lets see, what do I need? Probably should get some mints, and some cocktail napkins. I need more of those little toothpick things that you stick in cheese cubes and swedish meatballs.

    Ice, I'll need ice.

And a jar of aloe night cream for my eye wrinkles.

    I think I'm all set.

I can't believe you won't have French Toast. I will be at the store buying milk, eggs and bread.

I used to tell friends that they should prep in small increments. The easiest way to eat an elephant... Now I tell them to go power shopping in two or three big whacks, because things just aren't predictable anymore.

    I second this opinion. 17-20%
at least this much. probably closer to 20 than 17.
people who been lookin for work but stopped arent counted.
people who used up all unemployment benefits aren't counted.
people who are just laid off and not fired aren't counted.
doesn't count people out of work for more than a year.
doesn't count people who are barely employed working low # hrs a week.
no expert but i say almost 20% sounds about right.

In addition to total unemployment, there is a great number of people who are seriously under employed. I was in a position where I had personal knowledge of about 140 families financial status. Well over 1/2 had lost at least one income stream. Almost all had lost some income, due to lay offs, cut backs, finacial demotions, etc. While fighting to keep their heads above water, there are no purchases except for necessities. No new cars, no new carpeting, very little entertainment, etc. Lots of guys with lawn mowers in their pick up trucks fighting to mow the same grass. I personally am working two part time jobs and generate a little side income, and I am only making about 1/3 the money that I was during the Bush administration. No matter how defined or accurate the "unemployment" figures are, they cannot begin to tell the story. All the lowered income situations not generate many tax revenues, and the poor relief efforts are over burdened, causing even higher debt. A fighter pilot would call this a death spiral and it does not look like we have a pilot that knows how to regain control.

How many of you preppers are stocking provisions for your neighbors and out of town family members? How many of you have tried to start up a neighborhood watch association, or gotten to know who lives next door to you. When the SHTF you can have all the Bulgar wheat and rice in the world stashed in your bunker room, but it's going to come down to you AND your neighbors.

Tried starting a communications/watch system. Was not a whole lot of interest. Lifeboat ethics, here is some food move along now. I know all my neighbors, one may be ready the rest are not prepared. It comes down to me and my MSG not my neighbors.

    Yep, Great point!
My neighbors are on board, some knowingly and some "without all the information";) My out of town family members and some selected local friends know where to come and what to bring with them if they can.

First off. I have french toast.

Second. Jeremy, think beyond beer. You need to be self sufficient. If you have wheat, a little sugar/maple syrup/honey/molassass, dried hop pellets, some ale yeast and clean water. You have beer. Forever. Come on man.

Sailor and Jahred. After the balloon goes up and the SHTF, we are having a cocktail party at my bunker. Probably vodka and tonics, so bring the olives and those little onions.

ChrstianIndy. We should start a post SHTF fantasy football league. Regardless, I keep my old Wilson Duke football around. It will be good to get up a game with the zombies. They move slow.
