    DHS Ammo buy...

Trying not to be paranoid, so does anyone have insight as to whether or not this is reasonable?

It's for training, you know; the millions, er, thousands of armed DHS people need to practice. A lot. I mean a whole lot. Don't you always use JHPs at the range? I am wondering what kind of SMG chambers .40, though.

    Reasonable

Yes, it's reasonable for routine training for a lot of people. I think the amount purchased is on a contract basis and probably delivered over time as needed. Contracting to buy in such volume probably saved a lot of money as well.

I thought this purchase was about 3 years ago? I thought the ammo was to be delivered by the January of 2012.

I see this as being much like a dual-use technology. It is true enough that federal law enforcement uses by requirement the same ammunition (i.e., hollowpoints) for practice as for actual carry on duty (as verified by a LEO friend who has practiced at the range with a fed or two. The other side of the coin is that I am not willing to accept as face value that this is innocuous and bet my liberty on it. The primary problem is not that DHS is buying ammo like it is going out of style, but rather that DHS should not exist.

Several, but the most widely used in government is the HK54. Lafayette Police Department has in inventory HK54s in .40 Short and Weak.

If you wish to ejamakate yourself on the HK line:

    MP5/10 & 40 Series

Right, the total number represents the max.

Everyone take off your tinfoil, it is starting to cook stuff.:D

    Training with JHP?

    Really?

    Yes, really.

wow! thats almost believable although the writer does come off a little nuts at times. seriously why does homeland security need that much ammo?

    A little nuts?

450M is a ceiling, inflated because friends in Congress want to see ATK working. DHS may not take it all but have dibs on that much if they want it from Federal/Speer/CCI.

I have heard that homeland security does not use target rounds because they want to have the feel of the actual ammo they will be carrying. Kind of makes sense. I am just wondering if they are preparing for what will happen after the next election.
