Well this is just awesome. If this is an extraordinarily large order it will eat up supplies. Then, all the panic when mojobama gets back in and ammo will hit the stratosphere. We may see shocking numbers on ammo when the herd begins to get spooked and starts to run for the gander mountains. :runaway:

Oh crap! Did I just make it worse?!

Indeed. I wanted to know why the government needed bullets that would put down a t-rex. This thread has failed me on many levels.

A t-rex? 450mm would put down an aircraft carrier! 450mm=17.72 inches. An Iowa-class battleship, by contrast is armed with 406mm/16 inch guns.

For clarity, which post(s) would you have considered part of the THB (Tinfoil Hat Brigade)?

When that phrase gets brought up, usually that means everyone not wearing rose-colored glasses. If I were to hazard a guess, it would include all of us who do not trust the government, particularly Fearless Leader and the DHS.

Maybe federal agents should buy their own equipment. Guns, uniforms, vest, ammo. They wouldn't be the first professionals that bought their own gear.

Consider another career choice: auto mechanics. They need tools if they want to make a living. A professional auto mechanic often has purchased thousands of dollars worth of tools & equipment in order to properly function in his job, in a dealership or auto shop.

And just like other aspiring professionals that go into personal debt to obtain a marketable skill, these federal agents can pay for their own training too.

The government should sell that ammo to us as surplus ammo at 15% their cost

Generally it's the manufacturer or "middle man" that sells the surplus ammo...

But yes, eventually, it would be nice for the "surplus" to hit the market. Of course, since it's premium SD ammo...it'll not be any less expensive. *sigh*

Sigh, look ATK is big (it's Federal, Speer and CCI for those that want to know).

    1. The war in Iraq and Afghanistan is spooling down and ATK has excess capacity.

    2. The price of base metals such as cooper and lead are rising and it is within the best interests of .gov to lock in a big fat max contract.

    3. I am certain phone calls from various Congressmen were made.

    4. Various agencies inside DHS suck up the rounds in training so it is a good idea to have a high max contract.

Will they let you take it with you if you decide to quit?

They probably need it to remove a fly in one of their offices. You know how the gov likes to go overboard.
