    A 696 is a 3 inch L-frame 5 shot 44 special. Same frame size as a 686 357mag, just in 44spl. I think a 3 inch barrel looks good on this size of gun. Most 686s are 2.5 inchers.

    I really like the look of the wood grain grips. I have a Ruger sp101 .38, where can i find some good wood grain grips. I'm not familiar with any names or types of wood that would be best.

    Thanks..those are Ahrends grips. I really like them. Even though they are smooth, they don't slip around, even when shooting magnums.
    They are really nice. I stumbled onto an old guy that had several sets of S&W finger groove wooden grips that I have on a few of my Smiths. I'd like to get a nice set of wood boot grips for my 2.5" Nickle 19.

    Very nice indeed!
    I especially like the 2.5" Python, just beautiful. I've aways had a hankering for one, and one of the 3" Pythons.
