You must be RICH! Every time you pull that trigger you're sending a buck and a quarter down the barrel. :):

In all seriousness, I like that Ruger a lot!

Not really that expensive to shoot.

Only ever bought 1 box of factory ammo. After 20 rounds I started reloading.

It costs me roughly the same to shoot 454 casull as it does to shoot 45acp, depending on the cost of bullets. It does consume quite a lot of powder though.

That makes a huge difference. I've never bothered to look up the load data for the 454 Casull, but I'm sure it takes a heck of a charge to whip up a round. I don't cast and I've never priced bullets, but I'm sure they don't give those things away either.

    Any .452" bullet will work.

I only use win296 powder and small rifle magnum primers. Usually go with 250gr bullets over 34gr of win296, and it's more tame to shoot than a lot of 357 magnum revolvers.

Even had my friend's girlfriend pop off a cylinder through it, and she didn't think it was all that bad either.

Just feels like someone gave you an excessively hard high five, doesn't move much. You can actually pull off double taps with it.

It's hard to believe, but I'll certainly take your word for it. I wouldn't have dreamt that light 454 loads can have a lighter recoil than a hotter 357 round.

I love the smoothish cylinder of the Casull version, I wish the .44 was like that too.

If I ever get an Alaskan, I might go for the .454 :D

It's all in the gun, not the round fired.

Velocity+Gr weight of bullet÷weight of gun=what your hand feels.

That 454 is a big heavy chunk of steel. 53 ounces.

    Compare this to a S&W 686 at 38 ounces with a stout loaded 158gr.

The 454 is more comfortable and controllable.

As for the alaskan, even though it's smaller, it has yet again less recoil than the full 7.5" version. Reason being the trade off in weight vs the trade off in velocity doesn't allow it to generate enough recoil to make up for the weight difference. You lose so much power out of the alaskan's barrel that it takes the 454 casull down to 45LC +P performance. If I'm going to burn off 34gr of powder per shot, and shoot a 454, I'd rather it perform like one.

That's why I traded off my alaskan for the 7.5" version.

Of all the guns I have or have owned this is my favorite to shoot. With the right loads folks swear it is a 500 when I touch off a few rounds. It has more than a few deer and coyotes on it.

I don't doubt it a bit! I haven't had the pleasure of shooting an Anaconda yet but I have put several through a Ruger. Wow. :): That thing looks mean!
