I really don't know about when the lights go out, but I have told my wife that at the visitation I'd like to have this playing quietly in the background-

Yes, it's really about going insane and shutting out the world, but it will be in my will...

"Closing Time" by Semisonic. Im don't want my wife to have to endure a line of people saying how sad they are. You don't have to go home but you can't stay here.

I wrote my own funeral a couple years ago when I was interning as a pastor which was cool. However I don't have a song...
My best friend however has made sure I play Anchors Away at his funeral if/when (as he says) he dies before me.

Joe Walsh - Life's Been Good?
(I had a link but it didn't appear to be one of his finer moments).

Actually, the Frogger game will probably be closer.

Love the choices from the OP "Simple Man," and "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" from Evilwrench.
My personal choice for when the lights fade to black would be "The Great Gig in the Sky," again by Pink Floyd, a song that says it all without a single lyric.
For the funeral, I would love Ry Cooder's "Feelin' Bad Blues" and my personal favorite hymn, "In the Garden."

The Great Gig in the Sky:

In the Garden, as done by the man himself, Mr. Alan Jackson:

Great choice. I was playing some songs last night trying narrow mine down, I made a playlist a couple months ago "death songs" to be played at my funeral some day. Dreams I'll Never See was the one I picked.

Love Molly Hatchet's version, but when I heard the original (Allman Bros. - "Dreams") I liked it even more.
