Love Molly Hatchet's version, but when I heard the original (Allman Bros. - "Dreams") I liked it even more.

I love both very much, but have a special connection with Molly Hatchet. When I was a kid we had an astro van that my dad drove and was the family vacationmobile, at some point the CD player stopped ejecting discs and Molly Hatchets Greatest Hits was the one stuck in there for years till the van was sold and it went with....

I'll never forget flyin down the highway in the old astro with Hatchet blaring over the speakers!

Oh yeah... I went to school up in Michigan right after high school, and right after Molly Hatchet's first album came out. I turned a lot of people on to it up there. :) Danny Joe Brown's voice was awesome!

I've been avoiding this thread because I got nuttin', but when I saw Printcrafts entry I fell over kicking. Perfect. You win the internet for today (yesterday?). Some good and funny stuff here. I might just settle for wolves howling in the night.

Better than my choice:

I'm an Atheist, so neither Highway to Hell by AC/DC nor Knocking on Heaven's Door by Dylan would be appropriate.

I had The Living Years by Mike and the Mechanics played at my mother's funeral.

I thought nothing happened when an atheist dies. Wouldn't tv static be more appropriate? :):

Three songs: "In the ghetto", Elvis Presley, "Piece of my heart" (with minor lyric changes), Janis Jopin, and "When I die", Blood sweat and tears. I think the music will be a lot different when I reach my final destination.

Love the choices from the OP "Simple Man," and "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" from Evilwrench.
My personal choice for when the lights fade to black would be "The Great Gig in the Sky," again by Pink Floyd, a song that says it all without a single lyric.
For the funeral, I would love Ry Cooder's "Feelin' Bad Blues" and my personal favorite hymn, "In the Garden."

Feelin' Bad Blues:

In the Garden, as done by the man himself, Mr. Alan Jackson:

Shine On You Crazy Diamdn (parts I-IX):

Here's hoping you die real slow, huh ?

Dust in the wind is a really good choice.
However, if you want to go out with a little defiance then
"We are the Champions" by Queen would be how I would hope my movie ends.

The old hymn Chief of sinners though I be
by William McComb, 1793-c. 1870
Chief of sinners though I be,
Jesus shed His blood for me;
Died that I might live on high,
Lived that I might never die,
As the branch is to the vine,
I am His, and He is mine.

ANNOUNCEMENT:

If and when I meet my end, anyone who dares to play anything even remotely connected to the Grateful Dead anywhere near my corpse should expect me to find a way to come back to kick their ass. Or, I will hire someone in my will to patrol the the area and deal with any such offensive behavior.

The Grateful Dead sucked, the filthy hippie losers in the Bay Area who worshipped them sucked, and the sub-culture they spawned and perpetuated sucked. I am not joking this time.

As I think about this.....the last tune that will most likely run through my mind is the theme song for the old Carol Burnett show..."Time Together"
I have been singing that song to my G-daughters since they were born. It is what I do when the leave to go home. They expect it.

I am thinking it is dusty in here.......

So you don't want us to play "Friend of the Devil" at your funeral? Because it can easily be arranged :)
