You want to know? Move over there and then get back to us. The thought that you must like the idea scares the hell out of me, and the fact that you are a gunowner just baffles me that you might really think that it's so right.

Gentlemen...Do not ASSUME that I like socialism just because I asked the question. I most certainly do not. I was merely probing for some specific objections that folks can identify. Thanks to all who've responded.

What is so wrong with European socialism?

    1) It is plunder of the workers.
    2) It is plunder of future generations.
    3) It is an unsustainable standard of living that will collapse is a firestorm of death.
    4) It entrenches the political class, enriches them at the expense of actual workers.
    5) It enriches the bankster class at the expense of actual workers.
    6) It creates unemployment and a destruction of initiative.
    7) It creates debt, debt and more debt. That can go on until it cannot. While the debt is being created moron will ask "what's wrong with socialism?" as if the debt means nothing and will never need to be repaid.

    To Roisigns,

We have had socialism in the United States for decades. We just don't perceive it that way.

Fire department? Socialism. Police department? Socialism. Streets and roads? Socialism. Federal military? Socialism. Public schools? Socialism. Medicare & medicaid? Socialism.

I think there is a very blurred line between socialism and public infrastructure. It's just a disagreement on where that line should be drawn. If we need police and fire services, why aren't groceries, water and electricity free? Neither side of the argument is really wrong.

Trying to understand your table. If the tax rate for incomes from 72k to 343k is 42% then how does one making 100K pay 17.7%?

    Your first 11,000 is taxed at 0% = $0
This leaves you 89,000 to be taxed at the next level.
    The next $72,000 is taxed at 14% = $10,080
This leaves you $17,000 to be taxed at the next level.
    $17,000 is taxed at 45% = $7,650.

You have now paid taxes on all $100,000 and do not need to go to the next step.

    Total income = $100,000. Total tax burden = $0 + $10,080 + $7,650 = $17,730

    $100,000 X tax rate = $17,730
    $100,000 X .1773 = $17,30

    .1773 = 17.73%
