I think we need to start a movement...

    LETS MAKE MAN PURSES COOL!!!!

(or at least somewhat socially acceptable)

Oh the things I would carry with me if it were not considered strange for a man to always carry a bag. They can be tacticool bags like maxpedition stuff, they don't have to be Italian leather European carry-alls. I'm not sure how to accomplish this. Perhaps we can write to Obama and ask him to make them cool.

Oh, you mean more like this:
    100_5386.jpg

Taurus 709 Slim, extra mag, knife, Blackberry, wallet, checkbook, cap gun (for a play I'm in), script, camera, charger, cigs and lighter, extra knee-hi's, receipts, papers, cd, bobby pins, iPod, kleenex, makeup, lotion, gum, chapstick, nail polish, nail file, pens, tide-2-go, tape measure, advil, airborne, mucinex, inhaler, cough drops, usb drive, anti-bac gel.
Oh, and most of it (besides the phone and gun) in a fancy, European Coach bag. :rockwoot: Useful, AND stylish.

Okay! Okay! Here is a good estimate of what's in my trousers' pockets or on my belt, minus any firearms-related gear:
    • Wallet - includes all ID, licenses, spare vehicle keys, etc.
    • Backup wallet with notepad, one credit card, cash, and business cards
    • primary set of keys w/ Wenger SAK and keychain LED light
    • back-up set of keys with flat screwdriver
    • four bandanas
    • two packs of Kleenex or other tissues
    • some loose change
    • mobile phone
    • three flashlights (Fenix TK11, another small Fenix, and a hot-rodded Surefire G2)
    • Leatherman Super Tool (original version)
    • Knives: CRKT Kit Carson #4; Cold Steel Voyager; Spyderco Endura (version 3); Spyderco Endura w/ flat ground blade and G2/steel grip; Ontario RAT 1 folder; Victorinox SAK Explorer Plus
    • Surefire earplugs
    • Butane lighter (usually 2; sometimes a Zippo)
    • asthma inhaler
    • Carmex lip goo
    • pocket first aid kit
    • MOLLE pocket organizers (those are the bulges you might notice in the cargo pockets of my trousers or shorts). The inventory in those is enough for another message, but it include floss, another light, another lighter, Nitrile gloves, more earplugs, some sugar free cough drops; collapsible ballpoint pen; 0.3 mm mechanical pencil; Victorinox SAK Explorer; whistle w/ button compass; another collapsible pen; rosary; chapstick; membership cards to various clubs; some 550 cord; backup inhaler; other medications; glucose tablets; etc. etc. I probably should go through them and do a detailed inventory, but I usually remember where things are (and that I have them) when I need them.
In my shirt pocket I usually carry another inhaler, a scientific calculator, my calendar book, several pens/pencils/erasers, a drawing template, and a Streamlight Microstream flashlight.

Around my neck I have a chain that primarily serves to carry some religious symbols, but I also have a whistle and a small LED light there too.

Oh. My. God. I can't believe you carry ALL of that! Just like a chick, carrying a bunch of stuff you don't need! J/K :D

    Two questions:
#1 - What is in your BoB, or is it just an empty bag?
#2 - Do you jungle when you walk?

Wow, I feel so inadequate. Right now I have my cell, a small SAK (midnight minichamp), and wallet. My keys are in my jacket pocket, but there is nothing on the ring besides my Kroger Plus Card. I fail.

I carry a couple grenades, a shoulder mounted anti-aircraft missile and have an M60 mounted on my hemi-equipped Dodge Ram (soon as I sell those last sixteen shottys and ten of the AR15s I'm getting a Hummer! That M60 is a bit heavy for the Dodge.

Does anyone get the sense that perhaps some of those who posted are just a little bit over the top?:dunno:

Is it possible that our "over the top" attitude contributes to the anti-gun attitude of many of our neighbors? :dunno:

I carry a Glock 26. I often have a Swiss Army knife (not always because I have had too many confiscated by the TSA folks at the airport—my fault, I forgot to pack right), so I am not anti-gun in any way. But looking at the arsenal some of these posters are packing helps me understand why folks get nervous about CC and OC. If I knew what these folks were packing, I would leave the area, too.

I understand about sheep, wolves and sheepdogs (and I am training to be a sheepdog on a small level—at least to the point of taking care of myself and family), but where does reason cross the line to excess?

I recognize I may have just declared open season on myself (please remember, I have my LTCH, CC on a regular basis, and I am a card carrying member of the NRA:draw::ar15:), but I would appreciate some serious thought and comment about this issue. Where does sheepdog reason morph into waving the red flag at the bull excess? I fear our excess may undermine our credibility and weaken our cause.

Looking forward to serious thought and reasoning from the wise :ingo: membership.

I've always wondered where this "preparedness" stigma comes from as well. I haven't seen anything in this thread that would cause me to "leave the area", as you put it. Just a bunch of folks with different levels of tools on hand. Now, someone hanging around the grocery with an AK over their shoulder might get my attention. Unless they are all :n00b:, I might strike up a conversation!

Working in IT and AV industries, I've seen folks with Batman-style belts full of tools. Looks like excess, until they fish out the exact thing you need to fix the problem at hand.

As for the backup pistols, spare mags, multiple knives and flashlights - might these folks work in law enforcement or emergency response? Or, might they farm, travel the back roads, or work in some not-so-nice neighborhoods? Some folks need to be self-reliant. They can't go back to the truck for tools, and they can't wait 2 hours for LEO/EMT if something turns south. They might stick out at the Fashion Mall, but those of us WITHOUT tools will stick out just as bad in their normal environment.

We don't just prepare for an all out SHTF we prepare for normal situations that can happen in our daily lives that normally others aren't prepared for.
