This is what it is all about!

Oh, yeah! I like hearing when someone (2 someones is even better) has success in their early reloading experience. It means they have done their homework and are going to be in it for the long haul!

This is a great part of the shooting hobby! Keep it up folks! Pass it on!

    Thanks Skip!!

    Quite welcome sir!

Smoke poles today! Got the wife some pink accented stocks for her stainless steel Endeavor muzzle loader with a 28" barrel for Christmas as well as a Nikon Omega scope. All was assembled prior to today and off to the range we went with a 10oz bottle of Blackhorn 209. That stuff is amazing! More testing needs to be done though.

I got a Nikon Omega for my Encore too and we got them both sighted in. Used them with open sights during season, now.................Way cool! ;)

Thanks Skip! Just bought more powder yesterday. Also went to the range to produce a few more casings.

I've been doing this for three months and I have a lot of crap in my setup. Loading .308 for accuracy in a rem 700, made ammo that shoots better than 168 FGMM using 175 SMK HPBT 0.05" off the lands over 39gr of 4895. Gonna try them over 40gr of varget.

Need a 400 yard range so I can do a ladder test!!!

Loading is addicting, or at least, seeing the results of loading is addicting.

I push mine quite a bit harder with Varget. 44.6g. That's my accuracy load for blueprinted actions, in stock actions I use 44g. Starts to show cratering at that pressure.

I worked on a few hundred more 38 special rounds today. Last week I was using Unique and today I was working with Bullseye. I'm just trying to find that magic combination that works best for me and my gun. That's the fun part of reloading for me.

One other thing, while my single-stage press works well, I believe it's time to seriously start considering an upgrade on my press. It gets tedious working up large numbers of rounds on that single-stage.

Shot my first 44 magnum reloads today. Loaded up some 240 gr SWC over 17.8gr of 2400 then 18.5, 19.2 then 20.0. Chrony wasn't working to well with the clouds but from the reads I did get I got about 1200-1240fps with 18.5gr and 1317fps with 19.2gr. I decided to stop there .

I didn't want to go much hotter and I shot one of the darn chrony rods so my chronographing was done for the day.

Don't feel too bad. We all have boo-boos like that occasionally.

This is another awesome aspect of reloading. A 44 magnum, for me anyway, would sit in the safe a great deal of time due to the cost of ammo. Now, if you reload, that changes the game completely.

What did you shoot them out of? And, pictures would be nice! ;)

Son #2 did this to mine a few years ago. He picked up, went directly to the gun store, and brought me back a new one! :)

They don't hold up well to a properly placed .30/06! ;)

I too went to the range today and shot 44Mag. MAN, THERE WERE A TON OF PEOPLE THERE TODAY! WOWSERS!

My load was a 250gr Keith over a full charge of AA#9 for about 1350fps from my M629 Classic in 5" form! One guy handed it back after he shot 2. Said it was too much for him. They are stout but not unmanagable. Sure made the paddles on the dueling tree swing around! Cool! :D

I have been shooting 87 grain SP's out of my 9 twist Remington 700 in .243 topped with a 3 X 9 Leopold scope. They stay around 1 MOA at 300 yards with 38 grains of IMR4064 at 3050 FPS at the muzzle.

Since I have hundreds of them, I decided to try the sleek 6mm, 105 grain AMAX. I loaded up 20 rounds with 40. grains of N550 at magazine length and headed to the range.

    What a disappointment.

I have gotten better groups with FMJ military bullets. I got flyers that opened the groups up to 8 inches or so. I shot 4, 5 shot groups and they were all poor.

They were well stabilized, but I wonder if a 8 twist barrel would help them to shoot better?

I wish I had some 95 grain Sierra BTHP bullets to test....I'll bet they will do better.

No longer a 44mag virgin here!!! lol Was to load some 44 mag today but Uncle was up early an wanted something to do.

He started me out light. one that sounded like a cap gun, then 17.5gr 18gr, 18.5 etc up to 22gr of powder pro 300 something....

Glad he did it this way instead of turning me loose with the 22gr for my first shot...

Cooper 21 in .223 with a 14 twist. Has a M223 on it so I've been trying to fit a 55gr. load to match the MV with the twist rate. Finally settled on a Hornady 55gr. V-Max #22716, with 25.2/IMR 8208 XBR, lit with CCI#450's, in BHA Match brass, 0.009 off. Got the scope back from Nikon to fix a problem, and went out before the rain. Once I got it dialed in, got into form and then the rain started. Fired 3 quick shots [100yds.] and packed up and went home. Turned out that quick group measured out at 0.137. Believe I will use it from now on for whatever. Loaded up 100 more, and ordered 500 more bullets before any new price increases that might occur. Fun little gun to shoot.

I loaded up 40 rounds of .243 Winchester with IMR 4060 @ 41.5 gr. and topped it off with a 58 gr. Hornady V-Max. Should be pushing 3600fps.
    The Savage likes it.
