As you may know there was a Socialist rally last night for Obamacare, and a huge outpouring of people against it. The people against Obama's health care reform outnumbered the Socialists by several-fold. Everything about the event was peaceful and orderly. To view a discussion of the rally, please go to this thread:

HOWEVER, a man who was legally Open Carrying his firearm was detained by Valparaiso Police for almost 30 minutes. He was not arrested but the officers told him that carrying was "a privilege, not a right."

Here is what he wrote in his video comments:

Hey guys.Today in a town by me there was an obamacare rally and a massive counter protest. In total about 50 people turned out in support of obamacare and the other 200 came to oppose it.Anyway me and my associate both open carry our firearms everywhere we go.Everything was going fine until an officer of the Valparaiso police department approached me asking what i had on my side then proceeded to grab my arm(assault?) and walk me to the back of a car and had me spread eagle like a criminal. He then proceeded to grill me on carrying a pistol and tell me that it was a "privilege" and "NOT A RIGHT!!".

I maintained respect for the officers though i felt my rights were being violated and continued to remind them of my constitutional rights. When i set the camera down it fell over so all i got was audio. In the end my carry license and ID where legit and i was returned my firearm.I was nice to the police and offered to conceal even though i didnt have to.I just would like to say that aside from the grabbing of my arm and immediate treatment like a criminal, the Valparaiso police officers were very friendly, especially the female officer i had a nice conversation with and i have the up most respect for law enforcement. The vids are a little choppy because i edited out a lot of walking and stuff and i edited out my personal info and dead time in the second.

I am just left wondering if the police these days even have to learn the constitution.
Here is the video in 2 parts:

Hum... perhaps the same type of talk that the Cheif of Police of Hammond was/is getting from anotehr INGO member needs to be done to the Chief over at Valpo?

Hum.. perhaps an ENTIRE Lake county police invite needs to be done so that we have all the cheifs in one setting and to see what their knowelegde of the laws are?

    Hum....

The cop was 100% correct. The LTCH does not have anything to do with any right. It is a state permitted privilege. If they finally get away from those little pink papers and go to something like Vermont style carry then it will be a right. As it stands it isn't.

Also the guy in the video should have never concealed. Also why in the heck was it NOT chambered...

Total abuse of power by the police and total bootlicking by that guy... who is probably a member here, but I'll tell it like it is, NEVER capitulate! Had they have arrested him he'd have won the civil rights lawsuit jackpot.

I'm recruiting him as we speak, via his YouTube profile. His intentions are good, the cops are the ones we should reprimand.

WOW. In Indiana of all places. I agree with the statement of having the Chief's of Police sit down and find out how much they know about the laws... That would be interesting.

:runaway::runaway::runaway: Scary handgun! Notice that no one in the crowd protesting against Obamacare even noticed or thought about it. But, the paid jackboots did....

and they are supposed to uphold and protect the constitution...

    clearing it up

Hey guys, megiddo here.I am new to the site and was asked to come here by rambone.I am also the guy that filmed and was in the videos here on topic.I would like to clear a few things up.

First of all i was not boot licking the officers,i was being respectful of my local LEOs in a situation involving numbers of people they did not expect. We all know what happens when you become rowdy with LEOs these days.DONT TAZE ME BRO!!.Ive open carried around tons of police and have never been stopped so it kind of took me off guard.I do believe if i didnt have that camera my arm would have been twisted as he started to until i aimed the camera at my arm.

I was not happy with the immediate treatment like a criminal and the officer grabbing my arm.Since when does every person open carrying a firearm have to be stopped to have their papers checked?,other than that as shown in the videos the officers were quite friendly.I offered to conceal to help sooth the situation.I did no go there to have a lawsuit or cause a problem.I open carry all the time. Its second nature to me,like remembering my wallet in the morning.

second,if you are under the impression that just because a state issues a piece of paper saying you can carry a handgun that it becomes a privilege YOU ARE WRONG.The problem is year and after and generation after generation we are conditioned to accept UNCONSTITUTIONAL LAWS.Laws like getting a permit to protest-UNCONSTITUTIONAL,getting a permit to carry a gun-UNCONSTITUTIONAL.but we do it anyway right??

If we keep not using our rights and not reminding our LEOs of their constitutional obligations 30 yrs from now the constitution will be considered obsolete and our children will have no liberties.

ITS CALLED THE BILL OF RIGHTS,NOT THE BILL OF PRIVILEGES.

and last i would like to say that i dont know anyone here really but DONT be keyboard warriors.Get out there and be up in peoples grills.
If we try to hide in a dark room they might just lock us in it.

    God bless.

    :patriot:

I'll put it in the truck if it makes you more comfortable?!?!?!?!?!?!

    WTF!!!!!!!!!

This is unbelievable, I didn't know we needed a federal permit to carry my AR.

    Valpo OC Lunch!!!!!!!!!!!

yes i know,i offered to truck it or conceal it because again i could tell the officer was already aggravated and i did not want to make the situation worse.Fact is these days an officer can find any charge to book you on if its legal or not.You will sit in jail and the judge will decide.

Had i got argumentative there is a whole host of things they may have been able to arrest me for.Disorderly conduct, resisting, hindering an investigation..stuff like that.If people dont think there are laws out there they can use to make your life hell i suggest people research them.

If you don't think it's a privilege then leave your LTCH at home from now on.

Thats sad that it should even be like that. The people that wrote our constitution would call what we live in today "a police state".Can anyone show me where police are authorized by the constitution??
