Walking back from lunch I spied a work truck with the company name, phone number, etc. on the side. And in just as large of a font was "VETERAN OWNED".

To me it seems tacky to use one's military status as advertising and financial gain. But what says INGO?

In the construction business sometimes the job requires a certain amount of VBE (veteran business enterprise) participation. If you are bidding a job and are not a VBE you need to find someone to partner up with to meet the requirements. The company you saw is just playing the game.

They also have similar requirements for WBE (women) and MBE (minority), so a minority, female, veteran owned business would be VERY lucrative.

Maybe he's serving up MREs and it's more of a taste thing. :dunno:

At job sites, I would probably walk up to his truck first because of his sign. So I guess it does work.

Our line of business almost always requires, MBE, WBE, and VBE participation. Bids get disqualified for not meeting those goals.

I don't have an issue if it is presented in a good way. I would prefer to support a Vet if I knew how to do so. I have paid for meals and other things for those serving our country in a way of saying thank you. I never let them know I did it. Their server only tells them that their meal has been paid for and the person would like to thank them for their service and remain anonymous.

Not for me. I'd be more likely to hire him. The prestige and benefits of being a veteran include public recognition and financial gain. My mortgage is a VA loan, which certainly equated to financial gain for me. I'd be pretty hypocritical to call this guy out.

To me it depends on the nature of the Company, a garage door company, I could care less.
Someone that does business with the DOD and so on, yes it matters to me. And I'm not talking about pouring concrete sidewalks at a Gov installation.

Should being a Veteran push you to the front of the job line ahead of non Veterans ?
And should some jobs be available just to Veterans for X amount of days First before non Veterans,
Like on the Indiana Career Connect system.

And a Veteran is asking this.

I routinely see RFPs that give extra 'points' to minority, woman, or veteran owned businesses. Want the trifecta? Start up a business owned 51% by a Latino woman veteran.

    .
I've got no problem with it if it is truly a Veteran. If it's just some Joe Blow who's faking it, he deserves public shaming and higher taxes.

    This is true-
I have known a lot of Nam Vets and the braggers (if they even served) were usually latrine specialists or cooks at best. :xmad:

Also, it will depend on the branch. If I were to find out they were Puddle Pirates or Flyboys, I would have them just move along. Grunts and jarheads are OK but I'd need to be in a great mood to be eating from any squid.

And that's why the duck is dead.

A lot of guys had no choice during that time frame. The draft put an end to a lot of goals and disrupted the nation in a way that I'm not sure we will ever recover from. If a guy pulls an Honorable, who are you to judge whether his service meets your standards? He obviously met Uncle Sam's.

IMO, yes. That's part of the pay back for dedicating a chunk of your life to the nation.

Ok.. We should treat all vets the same when it comes to who gets preference with what jobs are available.
The same with a VN Veteran that is still in the job market that was drafted as the same as someone who enlisted during say the eightys peacetime and served 4 years honorable.
