If you are not just stirring the pot, I need to know what he said that deserves that response.

What in the following quote is upsetting to you?

“Just because you are pro free market and know that the UAW is lead by socialist/communist does not mean you are against those who work and worked a union job. I'm am very pro anyone who works/worked for a union who publicly denounces socialists/communists. I am also pro people who chose to buy American being able to have their vehicles fixed quickly. The two are not mutually exclusive. As long as the work is being done no one cares who is doing it.”
First, I don't owe you anything.
A few here have earned it over the last few weeks in this thread with nothing but negative derogatory comments with those that do or have worked a Union job as a career.
I'm shocked it took this long to be said.

Earned what? Who has and who hasn't "earned it"?

No one's :twocents: is allowed here unless they are union?

No one can speak of the repercussions of a UAW strike unless they are in a union?

Do the union folks have permission to be rude, aggressive and speak poorly of INGOers?

Where are these "rules" :n00b: coming from?

The one guy they interviewed I thought was a pretty good attitude. Said something about saying they wanted to be paid what they’re worth. I think $40/hour for general labor exceeds that, but making it about value is at least a capitalist idea. Then he had to go and ruin it with that “our share” nonsense. You want a “share” buy stock.

If the UAW wanted their fair share of the profits, they could all get together, and divert funds to a stock purchase program of their companies. Then they would actually be responsible for their part of the companies ownership. But they want all that benefit without taking the risk of investing. Those profits do not belong to them, those profits belong to the people who ponied up the dough to make those investments. But that is none of my business... Oh wait as an investor, no matter how small, it is my business.

There is no angst here against those who worked or work in a union. They had their place in the world, and IMO, they are no longer needed. Benefits and a 40-hour work week are the standard these days. The current union is not the be all, end all that some here claim them to be. Same with a pension.

Personally, I don't need others to negotiate for me, tell me not to show up to work and go on strike, or even manage my funds for retirement. I WISH I could opt out of Social Security and invest that myself.

What the UAW is doing is turning the public against the unions...thankfully I'm not in the market for a new truck or needing parts for my current truck or I'd be pissed...

So to get this back on track - how's this standoff end?

I assume you are referring to me as you misinterpreted most of what I’ve said and attributed things to me that I did not say. Maybe pull your panties out of the wad and take a chill. You union bois are doing more name calling and f yous than everyone else here. Seriously

I think what drives the inability to hear the other side if it is identity. This sense of union brotherhood is ingrained as part of your identity. So if I say the idea of unions is on the Marxist end of the spectrum, it offends you.

You take it personally. Even though it wasn’t intended to be personally aimed at you. It’s just a statement asserting a fact about the nature of unions. I’m not calling you a Marxist. But if you can’t separate the discussion from your identity, maybe you should just ignore the people not affirming your identity.

People have a right to say what they think as long as it’s within the INGO rules. Getting butthurt and telling the people you think are insulting you to **** off or whatever is against the rules.

TL;DR nobody earned that “**** you”. You just think they did because “union” is your identity and not just an organization you belong to. You should follow the advice you offered earlier. Life’s tough, get a helmet.

Unions brought about fair labor laws. That took care of most of the reason to have unions. In competitive job markets I don’t think there’s a compelling reason to unionize.

If my employer pisses me off too much I’ll hit the job sites/networking, and look for better. In non-competitive jobs, jobs that don’t require uncommon, high-demand skills, companies can get away with ****ing over employees and saying “take it or leave it.” That’s the definition of a Hobson’s choice, where there really is not a practical choice.

So I think there is a place for unions to represent general labor. Because if companies can **** you, most will. Good employers are the exception. If that’s all unions did was to protect their membership from exploitation, as was the original purpose, I’d say that’s good.

Can anyone confirm if this is fact or fiction? That sounds like socialism or outright theft.

The union has also demanded a 32-hour workweek (with pay for 40 hours); the right to strike over plant closures during the course of the next contract; and, in the event that an automaker does close a plant, provisions that would force the company to continue paying workers indefinitely to do community service.
