George Orwell wasn’t a conservative. He was a democratic socialist who thought government is evil. He opposed Stalinism/communism because it’s totalitarian, and he didn’t think it was actually “socialist”. In later years he moved to the right but never right of center. He’d probably be a Bernie Bro today.

While I'm sure he is very happy to be exonerated, there is no way to replace what that guy has lost or to undo whatever was done to him by being in prison for six years. He has a new chance at life, but the value of what was stolen from him is immense.

I feel for the poor guy. What evidence did they have to convict him if no rape occurred? Was there some ****-poor lawyering on someone's part?

I think a lot of the time, the major part of the case rests on the testimony of the victim. If the charge is true, and the rape did happen, I'd like to think that it's enough, as all rapists deserve to rot in jail. (OK, they deserve to die.) Problem is that people are good at lying, and a jury can fall for it, so without evidence... this kind of crap happens all to often.

I'd rather a bad guy not get caught, than a good guy get punished wrongfully. Cops can't be everywhere, and people do need to learn to defend themselves as much as they can. I would personally take revenge upon a rapist who hurt my wife or daughter, but I would hate to see the wrong man put away by mistake. To do so on purpose... every bit as evil as the rape itself would have been. I'd like to see this chick get prosecuted.

She needs to go to prison now for double what he served. 12 years seems fair to me. She ruined his life now time to ruin hers

The last time I was called for jury duty...

It was a case of child molestation and they made it clear that it had (supposedly) been going on for years and there was no evidence. The job of the jury would be to weigh the the stories of the defendant and plaintiff and say which was telling the truth.

...I was called to the box and told them I could not tell who is lying or telling the truth and had a long talk with the judge that did not want to let me go. I think she almost wanted to hold me in contempt. I finally told her that I had no problem with serving, since I had served 4 times and returned 4 guilty verdicts. The defense lawyer used one of his peremptory excuses.
