The wall didn't go up immediately after WW2. It was post-Nazi/Communist Germany (1961) that built the wall after ~2.5 million escaped from the Communist East to the West. The wall was torn down as Communism was collapsing in Eastern Europe allowing Germans to unite with Germans, hardly the hallmark of diversity.
