I am having the same issues with the rings on my optic as you are but mine are to short to mount the glass on the varmint gun.
I had a 1/2" stand that got the clearance needed but it is a bit high.

Crap for both of us, with my mount the front objective is about .750 above the barrel.

Yeah I am in the same boat. Maybe closer to but still to high.
I will be at Alan's this Saturday working on a project for him so I will be coming home with a set.
