I generally would lean toward the .17HMR during the day and the 870 at night to prevent excessive bullet travel and assist in aiming in the dark, respectively.

Yeah, Fred and I spent the evening with her. We went and got Gelsosimos and had pizza in her room. She's still really banged up, but she's finally strong enough that they will probably let her come home tomorrow. I work 3-11 tomorrow, so they will let her stay in the room until after my shift.
