mouse, had it not been for all the things Dad was finding, I would have said Mom was a hoarder. She wasn't though, everything from letters, pictures, things we made for her in school, etc, etc

All sentimental stuff. Mostly all boxed up, just a lot of boxes. It only took up 1/4 of the basement. She also had her Santa and Christmas collections. Now that was a sight to see when she was able to put it all up. The living room was lined, every wall, every corner, every shelf, full of Christmas stuff. I really want to go through that and start passing it to the kids who want it. I know there is some stuff I am wanting, but I'll wait.

This sounds like Cindy's Moms house. It has taken so long to clear it out because everything has a story with it.

My experience with stuff like that after my grandfather passed away, was if you want something, ask. Otherwise, it'll sit there til the chickens come home to roost.

My parents house is full of stuff. Much of it is not stuff that any of us kids are likely to take. Mom has started lists and has asked each of us to let her know if there are things we want on our list. It is kind of weird saying that we want things and telling them now, but it is practical. At first, I couldn't really think of much I would want, but I have a few things on my list. Most are things are sentimental type things. Things that bring back good memories or are related to hobbies my mom and I have shared. Those lists are to be honored and no disputes will be allowed when the time comes. Anyone who disputes things, get nothing. We all know this is written in their trust.
