Woah easy there Rusty....this Ford guy aint never accused anyone of cheatin
Hey I wasn't sayin you! The guys commenting on that video. I've been exposed to 3 FE Fords in my life. The first is a 428 SCJ in a 69 Mach, have not had the opportunity to drive that one but I hear it's quick with its factory 4.30 gear. The second was a 390 stroked out to 450, with a torque curve starting over 500 ft lbs at 1900 RPM and maintaining over 500 through 5900, that thing was an absolute monster to drive in a relatively stock 67 Fairlane GTA convert. The third was a 428 CJ in a 69 Torino Cobra, that one was pretty mild other than being a full roller build, was fun to drive but more of a highway car with a 3.08.

I have much respect for people who spend money on an FE engine, they are insane. Much better ways I'd rather spend money.... But as with anything, with the right builder and the right parts, they are serious runners.

No punk on the Ford but the 428 was not their best offering.
I have been sent to the trailer by more than a few fords in my day but Bracket racing is a whole different animal than heads up.

True the 428 wasn't the best offering.
Been put on the trailer by plenty of times.
When it comes to engines I agree the right builder is worth all the extra money they charge. We certainly hold our own in the heads up game but just like so much other stuff takes seeking the right resources. Now like most I can cry all day about rules....racers are all lobbyists. Lol

In "The Day".......1968 to the early 70's when we rolled the streets with ill intent we sought out the unsuspecting 428 CJ cars. They were easy pickings unless some serious money had been spent. Even then they had some quirks. Buddy and I both had mildly warmed over L-79's with 3 peddles. Neither one ever got beat (on the street) by a 428.
A good friend had a Mustang (year escapes me) with that engine and he spent insane money on it. It was fast for a minute every time he built it. Which was several times.....:)

Now, those damned yellow boss 302's would ****ing fly.

My friend and I done pretty well with a 69 Cougar at Little River in Temple TX. Being in the Air Force at the time, we had very little to spend on the car so we picked the pieces when we could. I bought the 351 Boss heads for the Windsor. He bought most of the internal stuff. We did pretty well on the street too even with the three speed. I remember a certain 454 Chevelle who was amazed that we could keep up with him screaming down I-35. Also being told by the police on 6th street to take her home because she was too loud. I sure miss those days.

    Good days.
It was the heads. Those heads were amazing.

A well tuned and properly driven small block ain't no punk.

Yeah I have mentioned I am building a fox body mustang that won't be as fast as the Tbird. We have a healthy big block to go into it with a powerglide. The original plan was to drop a healthy 351C with a c4 between the rails.
