    I am restoring a 1970 Mercury Cylone GT with a 351 Cleveland.
    Try finding parts !
But I knew it wouldn't be easy.
It's nice to pull up and everybody ask,s what is that?

Unless you are my age or someones dad had one it is a mystery to so many.
I saw one for sale just south of Kokomo a month back. Yellow. Looked fair from the road.

I had a guy that thought it was a Porsche another thought it was a Pontiac. There is a Yellow survivor down here that can be sighted at a few car shows a year. It's a 429 CJ 4 speed 2 owner car.

CM how did the 429 stack up back in the day? We had very few Fords down here and most were 289,302 and a few 460,s.

I am not old enough to speak from experience as to how the 429 stacked up back in the day. But my dad and uncle are, and our family is as dyed in the wool Ford blue as it gets. From all the stories I have been told the 429 was a runner. Although they played with several engine combos they mostly hurt feelings with 351C's.

Tchicken hit it. It was a good solid plateform
We bought a totaled Mercury State cop car from a local salvage yard back in the day. My 68 Ford ranger pick up needed and engine. We swapped out the engine and trans into the truck. HMOGIH that thing was stupid fast.
I had all but forgotten about that truck. It was the parts truck for my HVAC business. I had to stop letting the employees drive it.

So I guess the 429 was about what I thought it was.
I know chevy guys would not agree but the 351C is the king of small blocks.
    When a 351 ci engine with cam,headers, intake,carb. Takes on 440, 454, 396 various 400s and wins that's something.

When done right the 351C is a bad B!÷€#. From all the street race storeis I grew up hearing (mostly from Ford guys but some Chevy guys), the 351C could mix it up & rumble with almost anything in production at the time. Am I right CM?

The Vaunted 351C was a serious contender. The heads (as always) were the key.
A lot of street cred goes to the pilot. Properly driven a well sorted small block will run with, out run some big blocks. But a well sorted big block properly driven is just very hard to beat.
There was this one yellow Nova back in the day. A very well sorted out L-79 3 peddle car. I can honestly only remember him getting beat at the track and that was seldom. We all get beat at the track on occasion. I can not remember 1 time he ever got beat on the street in a money race.
We lined up a few times when we got bored. It depended on what I was driving how we did.
The L-79 is a 327 by the way.
