    S.E. of disorder
My buddy in Pigeon Forge, TN bought a 59 chevy Apache that had the body put on a 1979 C10 frame. It has a mild 350 with a 350 trans.

It was black primer when he got it. He put flame red krylon on the truck after a 400 grit wet sand. Then back with flat black.
He then went to work sanding through the paint to give it the patina look.

Then off to get a top coat of high gloss clear. He has a total of $348 in the paint job.
People flag him down all the time to look at the truck.

He is thinking about pulling the motor and installing a hot 383 in it.
I told him to leave it alone. Just cruise it and don't create more problems.

Its weak as a turd but fun as heck to drive.

I'm not a fan of the "patina" fad especially when it's faked but that looks DAMN good!!:rockwoot:

OK, stupid question. . .just to make sure I'm not over simplifying things. . . . .measuring stroke is as simple as measuring the distance the top of the piston travels. . . correct??? I mean it doesn't make a difference how long the rods are, stroke is the distance the piston moves tdc to bdc, right?

1...Stroke is the sum total of the distance the piston travels in the bore. Top TDC/BDC....nothing beyond that measurement.
2...Displacement is the total of the stroke in the circumference of the bore. Total area displaced.
3...Rod length times how long the rod stays at TDC/BDC. It has no effect on the actual stroke. My stroker has 6" rods in it. With the right pistons the 5.7" rods would work and be reliable. The extra .3" allows the piston to stay in the event (TDC combustion) just a bit longer at BDC for better cylinder filling of charged air. The longer rods will show up on the + side of the dyno sheet.
The pin location in the piston is all that really changes. The 6" rods puts the pin partially in the oil ring grove.

Nothing so technical, I was just looking at the old motor that came out of the car and had been told it was a 352 but basing the stroke on the distance between piston tdc and bdc it appears to be a 390. If I had looked into it further back when I started putting together the engine that grenaded the lifter it's possible that it would still be in the car.

Measure the bore and the stroke. An old Chiltons will have the info you need to be sure. If you need it I have an old Chiltons that will cover this.

I am not a fan of fake pantina either, but it is a nice looking Apache. I would love to autocross my F100, but 3 on the tree, straight axles, and straight 6 power makes it a no fun proposition for now.

The meds must be working, I can see them now! I had planned on going to the CAM challenge to watch for a little while but had to go to a viewing for a friends wife on Saturday and Sunday, just didn't happen. Looks like it was fun though!!

Whew..... I was starting to think the reason you couldn't see the pics was because your wife punched you in both eyes when she found out how much you spent on your car.

So I just watched the new Top Gear America. Not sure about it yet. I really, really enjoyed Top Gear USA but looks like that run is done. 3 new hosts including Antron Brown, NHRA top fuel champ.

It seems to follow the original Top Gear layout. I guess I'll give it a few episodes.

Also heard Aaron from Gas Monkey is getting/had got his own show now. I'll see what I can find.
