Do you remember an episode of "All in the Family" where Archie is making fun of meathead because he puts on a sock and a shoe then a sock and a shoe? Archie tells him that everyone in the world puts on both their socks first then both of their shoes.

I've been known to do the sock shoe thing too. Not every time, but it is more efficient. No reason to lift your foot up more times than you need to.

Meathead told Archie that it there was a fire while they were both putting on their shoes and it was raining outside, that Archie would be outside in a pair of wet socks, and he (Meathead) could hop and not get his foot wet.

The walk-up ones I can understand but the ones in the drive-up lanes have always make me shake my head.
