    I can attest that the people at Velcro really do feel this way.

    I work I manufacturing so I get to attend a lot of trade shows. In March I met a gal at the hotel bar who works in marketing for Velcro, and within about 5 minutes of meeting her she was lamenting about people using Velcro as a ubiquitous term for all "hook and loop" products.

    Too bad.
    "Adjustable Wrenches" are still called "Crescent Wrenches".
    At work, "Radios" are often called "Motorolas" or "Femcos".

    And the list goes on.

    I was in supply for a time (company armorer) and we has to use proper nomenclature.

    • hook and pile fasteners
    • wrench, adjustable
    • and yes interlocking slide fasteners
