Very cool! Is it a 45 long colt or?

41 Long Colt, that was the largest caliber for the 1877. Benjamin Kitteridige, a long time Colt distributor in Cincinnati sold guns with added names, and often added features. Colt went along with this even though they didn't think of them, but Kitteridge was a promoter much like Sam himself and the company may have just looked at this as free brand promotion.

1877 in 32 was called "The Rainmaker"
1877 in 38 was called "The Lightning"
1877 in 41 was called "The Thunderer"
1878 was called "The Omnipotent" for all calibers

Colt also sold a rifle with the name Lightning, but this came from Colt.

I've seen some Kitteridge branded guns around, they usually command big money so I haven't acquired one as of yet. He liked to put ivory and MOP stocks on his branded guns, or engrave them. The Rainmakers are very rare and also command serious money if you can find them for sale.

0830 has a valid point ..... the current events can drive you nuts if you watch it unfold minute-by-minute.

I'm not trying to be an 'important person', or pound my own drum, but I went through some harrowing times during my six years attached to the Air Force.
I was stationed at Beale AFB, CA, during the so-called October War, that happened in late 1974.
As a Nuclear Weapons Specialist (463), I personally was part of a team that set the parameters, then uploaded the MK28's to (6) B-52's that sat 'all 8 engines running' on the alert pad for a few days.
From our underground structure, the ground was literally shaking for days !
    It was quite unnerving.

If you chase the SAC documents, most of it is still redacted, but here's an official page that talks a bit about the change in the readiness level that occurred.

Thank you for your service my friend and yes you can pound that drum.

$300 to the plumber and we are back in operation. But…. We’ve got an issue that needs solved… he discovered an issue with the main drainage pipe with his camera. Either broken or separated pipe. Requires digging a 6’ hole…. And quoted $3500…

So who wants to have a digging party? I’ll buy pizza, beer and blizzards.

Get another estimate Rusty that's way too much money. We had the main line replaced next door from the house out past the problem tree and it took the 3 men crew a full day with 1 coming back to finish back fill and pick up the little backhoe they used. It was $1750 total labor/materials.
Get a second opinion before you lay that money out. Seriously.

That seems steep, but I also think the same thing when I go and get gasoline or when my wife buys groceries. Everything is expensive these days.

You have well above average mechanical skills. Rent a mini and start digging.

Dad and I did this repair at our old house after tree roots from the spruce out back kept coming in through a pipe connection. Dug it all up by hand, resealed the pipe all the way around. Went almost 10 years before having the line cleaned out again after that.

So went to the indoor range today for a quick ammo test with the Springer RO. Thought I would try bench rest target shooting at 25 yards. Do to the height of the bench could not get the right angle through my progressive lenses And actually shot better offhand. But what I really found out is that I can’t hit jack :poop: beyond 15 yards so I better wait until I can see the whites and blacks of their eyes.

Target 3 was offhand, 4 shots from 10 yards, 4 from 25 yards. All the rest were bench rest at 25 yds.

Guess I won’t be taking any prizes home at the SGE.
