If you suspect a gas leak so significant that you want to shut off the gas supply - call 911 and get the heck out of there! Let the pros handle it.

I have seen the damage caused by gas explosions and you don't want to be nearby. While, exceedingly rare given the amount of gas supplied homes, don't take a chance....

Damn skippy. I did this a few years ago. Turned out I was downwind of my (idiot) neighbor's leak. Don't recall how they did it. Wasn't taking chances with a fresh baby and co. They went to my mothers at 9pm while I waited outside for Indiana Gas

Long story short: about 15 years ago, I was running on the treadmill in the basement and my house shook enough for me to notice. Gas explosion less than 1/2 a mile away. Took out two houses, damaged a third, Killed at least two; injured several. Cable company drilled into the gas line...

I've seen the after effects of a few others in my line of work. Saw one house moved about a foot off its foundation.

Again, the incident rate is super low but a gas explosion is like being pregnant. Its never just "a little".

Well, there was that one time with the BBQ grill but that was a bet....
