I told the spouse this was soon to be when we 1st saw the news flash.
Cant wait even for a minute lest you are short on funds.

Yep. If Walmart still has Perfecta in stock over the weekend I'll buy more. If not, I might have a buddy with a Point Blank membership help me with getting a discount on their ammo. Unfortunately my membership expires today.

Well, got the 75 surplus today. Did my best to inspect at the shop, but had a needy 6 year old bouncing off the walls, slightly distracted. Looked good, trigger is great, made in '86. So I did the paperwork, paid the fee, and off I went. I was really happy until I got home and found the frame is cracked on the rear rail to the thumb safety hole, no bueno Carlos.

So the question is, do I contact Buds and send it back (hopefully they work with me even though I accepted the transfer)?
Or, do I repair the crack (mig, tig, braze, or solder??) and call it good?
Just to clarify, I don't care how it will look after a weld repair, it would only add character. I really don't want to pay someone tons of money to fix it though.

    The good:
    - Trigger is awesome, in SA and DA, similar to Rusty's
    - Barrel is good, no pitting, will clean up well.
    - Has really good patina and feels really good, honestly just like Rusty's felt to me
    - Internals look really good, dirty, but overall really good

    The bad:
    - Broken tip on extractor (no biggy in my mind, noticed at LGS and didn't care at that point)
    - Front sight is loose and needs restaked or somehow secured better
    - Frame is cracked along the rear of the rail (all the way through to inside of the rail) and runs all the way to the thumb safety hole

Get the metalurgy on the frame before you let anyone put heat to it. This is important.
I found this post from David at CGW (schmeky) over at thehighroad.org.

Frames are cast, but the steel "works" like a forging. I have never seen a casting void in a CZ frame. CZ does not heat treat the frame, so it has to have a high carbon content, which is tough to machine since it dulls cutters fairly quickly. Hence tool marks. No heat treating and a high carbon content creates a durable, yet ductile frame. This is one of the reasons I hold CZ's in such high regard.

The slides are even harder than the frames, and CZ does heat treat the breech face, which extends back to the rear sight dovetail. You cannot use HSS cutters here, carbide only. A CZ will never peen or burr it's firing pin hole. Ever.

Find a highly skilled Tig guy. Let him asses this.

Sorry to hear that T-Dogg. I'd contact Buds before doing anything to see what they'll offer to do. That one sure slipped through their classification process. I really need to take a hard look at mine now. I've only taken a good look, but not a real good look.

I'm pretty torn up about this situation. I really like this gun, despite the crack, it's got a lot going for it. I really want to just fix it and move forward. However, I don't want to screw it up trying to fix it and really don't want to pay someone a bunch of money to fix it for me. So I think I'm just kind of like :dunno: right now with the whole thing.

Side note: Work has been hell on me lately, lots of work load, lots of stress. On top of that I'm having a sibling's car problems shoved down my throat that I don't want to deal with, but can't seem to slam the door and say no. I didn't need more problems on my plate.

Sorry to hear this, T-D. If it were mine I would contact Bud's. They will most likely replace it with another of the same ilk. In a year you will barely remember having it.

I will make time today to contact Buds. If they are willing to take care of me, I will send it back. If they tell me to pound sand, then I will fix it. Sounds simple enough to me.
