I would have assumed that, while the case was before the courts, there would be no leaks. Now that they aren't getting their way I can see it being a more appealing route.

Like I was telling someone today, Trump has so many "trump" cards in his deck to play before this election it's ridiculous.

Ending foreign wars
Ending the war on drugs
Potential legalization
Another stimulus package
Some feel good do nothing police reform
Infrastructure bills
Healthcare reform that gives some concession-level nod to those wanting a public option
Hillary's trial in september
Investigation into Biden's Ukraine dealings
Investigation into election meddling through the Russia hoax
Biden's mental health
Biden continuing to punch further left, and pandering to the most insane fringe
And countless other things...

If he wants to stop ***** footing around with his power and hammer some of this out through EOs, I don't see people complaining. Ending the war on drugs would be massive, and no one would care how it was accomplished. Likewise for us getting out of the middle east.

Most of what you suggest cannot be accomplished by EO. Congress won't be much help on many of those issues. Not in the time available. Good law takes time. Bandaids, for the most part, aren't effective political strategy in an election year.

Some days I’m cautiously optimistic, some days I’m cynically resigned to calamity. The democrats seem to have narrowed in on their campaign planks with thing like defund the police, ending systematic racism, green new deal type stuff, and other leftist/socialist crap. It seems to be what their base wants to push and Biden seems to be the empty suit in which they can stuff that stuff in.

What are the republicans running on? “We ain’t the democrats?” Has Trump really firmed up his campaign message yet? Maybe I’ve missed it but I don’t think so. Will the democrats’ lurch leftward be enough to scare enough of the more reasonable ones vote for Trump? Or just get them to sit home on Election Day? Man, that’s a dangerous gambit to play.

This is one of my cynical days. (I seem to have more of them than not anymore). But I don’t see the republicans leading on anything right now. Fear can be a mighty motivator but from what I’ve observed, it’s better to have the voters have a positive reason to go out into the typical November weather to vote for you than to hope they fear the other guy more.

The IRS has been politicized for quite a while now. Ask the various conservative organizations that were either denied or delayed year after year for tax-exempt status during the Obama administration.

In the past four years the FBI, DOJ and democrat led house committees have all leaked what they felt were documents damaging to Trump. Why would a leak from the IRS be any more surprising?
