I'm sooooo proud to be a citizen of the same Country and breath the same air as this trash. I support their right to free speech. I also support the right of a friend, relative or other concerned citizen who feels sadness at the tragic deaths of these miners to wipe the street with this unfeeling garbage.

Westboro Baptist Church Plans Pickets Throughout West Virginia

CHARLESTON -- A group known for holding signs proclaiming anti-gay slogans, picketing military funerals and stomping on the American flag has named 11 places in Charleston and Wheeling they plan to protest in April.

In 2006, the group picketed a memorial service for victims of the Sago Mine Disaster holding signs that read, “Thank God for dead miners."

According to the Web site of the Topeka, Kan.-based Westboro Baptist Church, members of the group will be in the Mountain State beginning in Charleston on April 8.

They have announced pickets at the State Capitol building from 4:20 p.m. to 4:50 p.m. and The University of Charleston from 5 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.

On Friday, April 9, the group will picket Charleston Catholic High School from 7:15 a.m. to 7:45 a.m.

On Saturday, April 10, the group has scheduled, on their Web site, pickets at Congregation B'nai Jacob and Temple Israel synagogues.

On the same day in Wheeling they plan to picket three Catholic churches and Wheeling Jesuit University.

On Sunday, April 11, pickets are scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Cathedral in downtown Charleston.

The Church is listed by the Southern Poverty Law Center as a general hate group and featured on its national hate map. To view the map click here.

What were their reasons for hating the miners? Did I miss something?

I am guessing that things aren't going to go well for them if they go to Logan County or some of the other mining areas. Those folks aren't very forgiving.

+1 on that. I remember when they came to Evansville to do their thing at the funeral of a soldier killed in Iraq. The guys from several local motorcycle groups surrounded them, started and revved their bikes every time they started yelling. Then they did an escort for the procession. Gotta love the bikers and their loud bikes. Almost made it a non-event.

Having been born down in a similar area, I think they had better stay real close to their press buddies. Otherwise they will be in real trouble and I wouldn't count on the Sheriff or his deputies being of much assistance to them. Someone could disappear pretty easily down there.

I just don't get it, has anyone ever asked them if they though Jesus would be protesting along side them?

    SICK.

I sincerely hope those heartless jackasses get the Appalachian asswhoppin' they so richly deserve!

Not really sure I would call get a bunch of grieving hard working miners riled up while they are burying their dead a really, really smart thing to do. Here's hoping a little Darwinism comes into play.

They would certainly be doing the world a favor in getting rid of the vermin.

in cases such as these i want to stand behind them with a big sign that says..."thank GOD for dead protestors" or "i like to beat up protestors" and see how they like that. its a disgrace to our first amendment. when i'm elected president i will sign an executive order allowing anyone to beat them up if caught holding an ignorant sign.

I will say one thing these people have B@LLS and big one's, marching in there with signs like those, I believe if it were one of my family members that were killed in the mine I would have to re-arrange one of those smiling pukes holding the sign if I went to jail over it so be it. Sure would feel good to beat one of those pukes up! I really don't like people that harass the dead! Surely we could categorize this type of activity as such as defiling a corpse? if only! :xmad:

They may be making a pretty big mistake.

I said before sooner or later, they'd mess with people that don't do lawyers and lawsuits. Pretty good chance they are doing that now. More than a few people have just disappeared on those hills. Some places, the cops are awful far away.

    One can only hope.

I'll be surprised if they don't get their heads handed to them down there.

I used to spend weekends in and around Summersville paddling whitewater kayaks on the Gauley during the Fall when they emptied Summersville Lake and during the Spring rains on the New River.

Good, solid people there. They look you in the eye and expect the same. They WILL jam some of those picket sign stakes into those Westboro Baptists' hearts.
