I thought the right answer was: "Am I being detained? Am I free to go?"... On second thought I think that is the right answer, but I'm not sure it is the right question

Never been asked, not sure if my wife has been asked as she has never commented on it.

Or, just say "yep, bunches. Do you shoot?".

I cannot imagine that getting on one or one thousand more lists for being a gun owner could possibly matter in my situation.

I own guns. The local police know, the state police know, the department of defense knows, what do I care if the health care system knows?

I understand resisting intrusion into privacy as a matter of principle. That is very reasonable. A person has their right to privacy. I am just so out in the open about my gun ownership that I cannot possibly imagine it hurting me to be on another list.

Besides, if the day ever comes that someone starts using lists to kick in doors and round up us gun owners, I will rely more on the strength of my community and the quality of my elected local officials than I will on anonymity.

When the doctors office scans your drivers license, they should already know the answer.

They even have to ask you about your sex life. Why does a Dr need to know about a 70 y/o's safe sex practices to ensure no surprise preg when they came in for a cough?

There are actually reasons to ask questions about that. In the past doctors shied away from such questions and a lot of conditions went undiagnosed because of it.

Besides, how else are they going to find out if you need a prescription for Cialis?

I was asked by my doctor if I still shot guns and if I did not to shoot off my left shoulder. He already knew and I understand his asking since shooting off my left shoulder would have been an extremely bad idea at the time. I also had a x-ray tech ask if I shot single actions after she saw my right thumb...almost fell in love after that lol.

I have never been asked by my doctor and I go to see him quite frequently due to some lingering injuries. If he did ask I would simply say "no" and not elaborate. I've already asked my wife to do the same if any of hers ask if we have any in the house now that we have a child. It's nobodies business except mine and my families as far as I'm concerned.

Never been asked, of course they already know since I was armed when I was rushed to the ER while armed and security took my gun, some nurses I saw there last week with my dad asked me if I was carrying that day

But I do remember hearing about this a few years back on the conservative radio circuit. I thought it was just some tin foil hat stuff used to try and scare their audiences into disapproving of Obummercare. But they are out there asking, so it must be needed for something.

If its on conservative radio, the goal is to stir up outrage.

Think about it. With access to all the information the government has, if they ever decided to do a confiscation (which they won't), the tool they will use is self reported surveys at non-centralized doctor's offices all across the nation? Yeah.

I usually OC at my Dr, we usually spend a half hr talking guns.
I don't really know how my doctor feels about guns. We do talk fishing occasionally. However the doctor that he shares his office space with is apparently an avid turkey hunter. He has several plaques and awards from the National Wild Turkey Federation on the walls. I've never been asked anything about my guns.

    Don't care.
If I take my car in to get an oil change, I don't expect questions about the garage I store it in.
If I take a kid in for a physical, or a broken arm, I don't expect questions about the home either.
Unless he has gunshots. Then I expect questions.

I know, it's like when someone who doesn't need it asks for a social security number or some other identifying info. My wife always thinks I'm crazy when she is filling out a form and asks for my SSN and I tell her they don't need it.

This info is not that hard to get, but I'm not going to just hand it out to everyone who doesn't need to have it.
