    Derrick Hunter Lawsuit (VIDEO)
    Cliffs (for the end)
Lawyer is playing the "what if/Race Card"...
Lawyer comment: "If they made him pay more because he was black, would you still have that same way of looking at it?"

It's a silly argument. By offering a discount to women, he is encouraging a demographic of which there is a shortage in the shooting community to come out. This is different that increasing the costs for a certain demographic to discourage them because of the intention behind it. This is the same reason I don't have a problem with ranges offering LE discounts as the more practiced our police are the safer our communities are (see NYC circa Friday). The intent is not discriminatory.

I would be more suspect of the intentions of something like "white people Mondays" as there is clearly no shortage of that demographic in the shooting community, and i think it would be difficult to articulate a plausible argument for such a thing.

While we don't offer women's only classes as a matter of course, we will offer them if requested because we recognize that, for some, a class like that offers a more supportive learning environment and may encourage some people to come out and train who otherwise would not. Clearly, it's not because we hate men.

    Wait a dang second.
I just looked at the range's website (Maryland Small Arms Range, Inc.) and unless I'm missing something, it looks PRIVATELY owned, to me.
As a PRIVATE BUSINESS owner, the proprietor can set prices (or refuse service) to whomever they choose.
If I owned a bacon store and said "Saturdays are free bacon days with proof that your name is Alan", I can give away bacon to every Alan that shows me I.D. If.I.Want.
If a Tom comes in, I am not obligated to hand over any bacon. Period.
My business. My product. My advertised special offer. My gain (or loss).

That guy suing the range better hope the range doesn't get a good business law attorney who will turn the tables and make him pay for all the loss of (female) attendees and negative press (slander from his own mouth and libel in the papers/on internet).

Tom isn't a protected class in this regard. Its likely he twisting the intent of Title IX.

The same type of argument was used with Hooters, when men claimed employment discrimination when it came to food servers.

Eff this guy and his little crybaby tantrum. I'm guessing he was the kid that, no matter how bad he sucked at T-ball, his mommy told him he was special, and he deserved everything everybody else got. Once again, EFF this loser!

Give his $15 back and tell him to get bent. We don't need people like that in this sport. If the range wants to try to appeal to a group (whether it's men, women, old, young, nerds, or body builders) then they should be able to. Now if he were to pay $100+ for a membership and the owner handed these women a membership "on the house," and gave them ammo or something of the sorts, then I could understand. But $15 for, presumably, an hour at the range on "Ladies' Day," I have no problem. That's like me suing all these bars around Indianapolis that have "$2 Ladies' Night," for $100,000 for emotional turmoil and "reverse sexism."

First off I agree with you 100% on the above statement, but what about the Gov...

A recently unpopular law was just passed here in Indiana about a smoking ban.. It imposes a no smoking policy to most all private business (i do not agree with it and I'm a non-smoker).

Heck even down here in Evansville, even the bars are smoke free, except the casino :dunno:

So now the question is, does the Gov have the right to tell a private business owner who they can let in for free, are charge?

I disagree with telling a private business owner ANYthing they can/can't do with their own private property.

If this is a small part of actual story (one i came across Friday)...they failed to mention this range also offers couples day as well as parent/child day. Although i sometimes take advantage of ladies day at Midwest..its mainly when i try to get female friends into shooting. If he wins money this should open the door for everyone to sue. Ladies day, senior citizen discount, military, etc...:noway:

There is the statement that refers to absolutes, and is a problem for me to agree.

    • A privately owned movie theater that seats 150, with only one 42" door to exit.
    • A privately owned grocery store that refuses to allow anyone but whites inside their doors.
    • A privately owned drug store that builds a new building, but intentionally neglects people with wheelchairs to enter and access their pharmacy.
    • A privately owned service station that charges 30% more for mechanical repairs to cars that are driven/owned by a Roman Catholic.
    • A privately owned business that terminates employment of a man, simply because he has turned 50.
    • A privately owned business who pays a woman 25% less, for the same work performed by a man.
    • A privately owned real estate business that refuses to sell her client's homes to Mexicans.

Barring that which may be illegal (and I'm not certain what that might entail), vote with your wallet. Go elsewhere and support the business that operates in agreement with your personal philosophies.

Other than that, all I can say is that I may not AGREE with a private business owner's values, ethics, or what they place importance on to run their business... but I wholeheartedly support their right to utilize THEIR property however they see fit, so long as it does not infringe on the private property of another.
Your right to swing your fist ends at my nose.

I have no problem with any of the examples you posted, because you made sure to add "privately owned". Not that I would do business with a company that chose to behave in any of the examples you have given, but the key word is "private" property. If you start drawing lines, and limiting what a property owner can do with their property, then you wind up with the cluster **** we have now, which sucks.

Maybe he has a good reason for hating ladies night. Maybe he is a pathetic loser that none of the ladies will talk to. $200,000 will barely cover his therapy bill. His mommy never told him that she loved him.
