a lot of funny replies on here...

I choose to OC mainly for one reason... I get a lot of questions asked by civilians... where I live they dont complain to the management... they approach me and ask why and etc... Then it turns into an educational conversation. I have had soo many people get enlightened to the state's gun laws and etc. I've probably turned atleast 100 people onto guns and carrying them. People see other's right to peacefully protest and etc get taken away they figure the rest of our rights are stripped too.... I often joke about the US becoming a socialist nation but currently we still have rights... lol

Rock on! Glad to have another join our ranks. Gander and Rural King are great safe places to pop your OC cherry in the civilian world. I recommend becoming a veteran before trying places such as hospitals and zoos

My wife will be having our baby in a few months and I will probably throw my shirt over it before we go in the hospital, just so that my wife won't kill me in the off chance someone refuses me entry when she's in labor, my adrenaline is high, and I get mouthy. lol

While out eating tonight I saw somone OCing for the first time I can recall. Some sort of pocket pistol (not much larger than the LCP I had in my suit pant pocket :)).

It's not for me, I prefer CC, but it was nice to see that no1 in the restaurant panicked. We had a pleasant meal & left. I didn't see anyone complain to the manager or call the police. I think most people just don't look for it or notice it. I had it mention it to my mom who I was eating with. I think if more people knew it was legal, it would be less of an issue. If they did perhaps they would be less inclined to panic, as if a gangbanger walked in, when seeing someone (such as the fellow I saw) eating with his wife with a holster gun.

When I used to work for Kroger on the south side of Indianapolis (Kentucky and Mann, Southern Plaza and Thompson Rd.) I saw OC fairly often, maybe about 1 a week. I always calmed the old folks down that worked there who thought it was dangerous by informing them that no criminal in their right mind is going to openly display a holstered handgun, so chances were that the person in question was licensed/had background checks/a note from their mother. I may not ever OC, but I support the right to.

I almost did an inadvertant OC last week at a medical exam. I was supposed to have wrist surgery for carpal tunnel (cancelled for now-Hooray) and this was a pre-op visit for blood draw, EKG and some other stuff. I decided to leave my G27 in the truck console but forgot about ankle holster because I was also OCing on the way there. When it came time for the EKG the techie, a young lady about 25-30, told me to lift my Tshirt, drop my shoes, pull my jeans up to my knees and lay on the table so she could attach all the electro pads. I felt the holster and said, "I didn't see any signs but decided not to carry in here. This holster is what I would have had it in." She said, "No problem. I'd know you had my back." That surprised me. The med building was across the street from the Deaconess hospital downtown campus but not part of the hospital. I must say the more I carry and interact with people the more I'm learning that most people around here are good with it.

So, are you going to try to make Starbucks on 1st Ave and Mill Rd. tomorrow evening at 1800? If the weather isn't too crappy my wife and I will try to be there. We'll have to work out our normal "Senior Tuesday" at Wesslemans (hey it's 10% off for fogeys :fogey:) and see how that fits.

I don't know why I don't see more people carrying.

Every guy I've ever seen open carrying is literally the guy least likely to get robbed...and it has nothing to do with the gun showing.

    [CONTROVERSIAL STATEMENT WARNING]

I'm sure they'd never admit it, but in my opinion, most guys that open carry are probably just DYING to kill someone in the name of self-defense or heroism.

Actually, it's a projective test ...and you just revealed a great deal of information about your psyche. ;)

Wait... if they really wanted to shoot some bad guys, wouldn't they hide their means of defense so they could "surprise" them?
I hear that a lot, "They won't know until it's too late." :shady:

    Too late for what? :dunno:

Carrying openly would actually spoil all the envisioned fun, giving bad guys a reason to avoid them and providing less chance of gunplay.

I think your assumption is reversed. :n00b:

I saw a guy OC this weekend in my favorite Mexican restaurant in Greensburg, the only thing I thought that was unusual about him was he was OCing a revolver!!! OMG! Only old people carry revolvers! :D

Wait a minute, I am old, so what does that say about me!!! ;)

No. No. No. Open carrying just makes you a target and the first one the bad guy will shoot. Not to mention the fact that besides the bad guys, 5 year old girls will immediately disarm you and beat you over the head with it!

Listen to the wise ATM. He speaks truth!

So you're saying that it's the fact that I'm a 6'1", 280 pound, tattooed veteran that I OC?

Been there, done that (the self-defense, not heroism), and I OC so I don't get put in that situation again.
