I know a guy who REALLY wanted mine. I had 4 factory mags with it. He made me an offer I couldn't refuse. It was a great pistol but as much as he offered me for it and that I was kinda looking to go all striker fired (the 3913 was the only DA/SA I owned), I sold it to him.

I'd still like to someday own a 1006.

I remember years ago when Bob at Plainfield Shooting Supplies had several used 10mm S&Ws in the case, all under $400. No one wanted them then. I did, but I didn't have the money!

I have two 6906's . One has the square trigger gaurd and the other is the rounded one. I would have to look but one also has a black trigger and hammer, the other is all stainless. I bought the first one new from Bradis in 1991. Still have the box and receipt for it. I was lucky enough to pick up ten mags for a good price a while back so I should be good to go. I'm trying to buy a 6904 from a friend of mine and it's as nice as most I've seen. Love me some 3rd Gen smith's.

I had a 6906, and 669 but did not like the compact grip as I do on the full size. Though I wouldn't mind buying another at this point in the game to just add to the collection.

My theory on escalating prices is exactly the above. Time has past and, while polymer guns have a home in most of our collections, a renewed appreciation for the third-gens was accelerated by the pre-election fears leaving many to ask; "What would I like to have in my safe if I couldn't buy them again". I suspect we will see prices level out again but doubt the days of a $400 pristine third gen will be seen again.

On the other hand....if you don't buy it today. Years from now you'll be saying, "I remember when GunBroker had 4506's all day long for under $700".

Hadn't been over on the S&W forum for a while and seen a few threads about Cabelas, and Gander Mt selling 5946's. Seems there are some 2014 5946's being sold LE overrun or whatnot. I had to give in and ordered one from Gander Mt for 369.14. I'm hoping it is as the others have said they have received. Anyone here buy one of these?

I just cleaned my 1006 last night as part of the yearly routine I am starting. Also have a 1076, and will try to post some pics tomorrow.

The 1006 I picked up at the 1500 years ago with two mags and 500 rounds of PMC ammo (mix of 170gr and 200gr hollow points) for about $600, and the 1076 at a LGS with three mags for $425. Sorry for the dark, goofy rotated pic.

I'd be proud of those, too.
It's just too bad that magazines for them are commanding stratospheric prices these days, though. :(
The only way that I could see to improve my own 1006 would be if S&W had offered a version of it with the frame-mounted decocker, exactly as they did with the 1076.
It's still one of those purchases I can happily point to as a potential missed opportunity that I never let happen. :)

Ever since I was bit by the 3rd gen bug back in 2012, which also was my very first handgun purchase I can't stop looking at GB trying to find a good deal on something. I know this has gotten me in trouble before with the Mrs especially when I say I will sell a different gun, but the problem is I have run out of non emotionally attached firearms. So my name is Mike and I have an extreme S&W 1st, 2nd, & 3rd gen addiction.

I pick up the gander mt 5946 tomorrow and I'm hoping it is a 2014 manufacture date, because I can put the other 5946 I have up for trade on another 1st, 2nd, or 3rd gen smith. I'm kinda leaning toward a 4046, or 4006 if I can find one. I wouldn't mind some of the older 639's, 539's, 645's, or decent shape 59's or 39-2's. I then may keep the other and carry both with some spurs on my shoes.

So I got my S&W 5946 from Gander Mt today and it is a Houlton ME gun made in 2014. No night sights, original box, and only 1 15rd mag. Gun is in barely used shape. The outside looks as if they threw a bunch together in a box. Yet for 369.14 can't beat the price. I was able to save 30 bucks with the code GMT5. If your on the fence go online and get one before they are gone.

My first handgun was a Smith and Wesson 457.

I always regretted not getting the nicer model and ended up trading it off for a Sig P245. I think the nicer version of the 457 was called a RECON, but that's been a long time ago!

I had a 4516 and a 4553...and sold 'em both! Great pistols...but liked the feel of the Glock better! Still wish I had them back though...those were nice pistols!
