I did the same thing to my 5903 and couldn't tell any difference after all that work.

The only bad thing about the 5903 and many others are the alloy frame. Not bad for build and operation, but as far as trying to polish them up to make things smoother. As you sand, file, or mothers the areas shown on the video to be touched you wear away some of the finish possibly allowing faster wear of those parts due to that corrosion protection being ground away.

That's what I got from the S&W forum a long time ago. I can see it as the frames are an Aluminum alloy with a special finish. I heard some people try to refinish their guns and the frame starts looking like crap after a few weeks. I think humidity accelerates the process.

I have a 6906 that sits in the safe. I bought it to carry, but realized it was too big and bulky for my taste. It has been in the safe for 15 years and everytime I look at it, I swear I say I should get rid of this for something else. After reading this thread I realize there are a lot of good things about these pistols. But sadly I am trading it for something else, although I don't know what I am looking for at this moment., This big, beefy hunk of metal is going to be traded.

There are so many carry options out there today...my P938 has become a favorite CCW. All metal; small and light enough.

If you decide to turn it into cash; instead of trade...I might be interested in it...

Smith & Wesson 5906 9mm 15rd Magazine S&W Mag OEM ? GUNPRIME Has OEM 15rd 5900 series mags for 17.99 plus 9.99 flate ship. I got 5 mags for 99.94 so you can figure under 20 a mag if you buy in bulk.

I got my mags today and they look good, but the price has jumped to 19.99 while still promoting them on sale. I let them know it was misleading especially for those of us who came back wanting more to see a sale sign and a different price.

    I'm also hoping I get outbid on a 6906 so I can buy a CS9 at a steal of a price.

    Sadly no 10xx mags. lol

    Tell me about i! :(
I lucked out late last year when I strolled in to Prairie Creek Pawn in Muncie and doubtfully asked if they had any, only for the owner to reach into a drawer and put two on the counter, asking price $30 each!
It took me all of 5 seconds to whip out my wallet.

Question. Did the railed variant of the 3913 (compact single stack 9) come DOA only or was there a SA/DA model also? Another thread about a EDC got me thinking.

According to the 4th edition SCSW there is a 3953 1991-1999, 3953 Tactical TSW 1997-1997 and a 3953 9 Tactical TSW 2000-2006 all 3 are DAO built on the 3913 frame. You also had a 3954 DAO from 1991-1992. From the looks of it none could be had blued. I'm sure some people have modified their 3913's to be DAO.

The 3rd and 4th edition of the Standard Catalog of Smith and Wesson is a great source for models, variations, history, and a general value in one giant book.

Yeah, my little cheat sheet is just that. It isn't all inclusive but it's easier than lugging a book around for gun shows, etc.

There are exceptions to the rule like the 6906. According to the rule it should be stainless/stainless, but is stainless/alloy.
