Can't say whether vaccines work or not. All I can say is that my children and grandchildren received them with no side affects that we know of. None have ever acquired any of the diseases that they were vaccinated against.

Having said that, I did not feel good about getting antibiotics every time they had a sniffle.

Look at that. Another pro-vaccine persons that just admitted that vaccines don't work. If they did, your children would have nothing to fear. Right?
You're a little late to the conversation. THis has already been covered.. Just like ALL other diseases when they are passed from person to person they can change into stronger or different diseases. It happens today with the common cold, flu and HIV/AIDS.

Loosen the tin foil or at least pull it up over your eyes long enough to read the entire thread before commenting.

Maybe if some would lay off the :koolaid: and think of what they are saying, they'd realize they keep contradicting themselves in their failed attempts to "prove" others wrong.

It's called critical thinking, not tin foil. Some of us have this skill.

I'm 18, get my vaccines on time, and I'm alive. I'm also into guns and eating meat, so you know there's no mind-control substances in them either.

    To All,

I watched a neat documentary one time on the annual development of flu vaccines. It was neat.

Basically the experts watch what is developing in China and other parts of the world. This is where most of our flu's originate due to the close proximity of millions of people with animals and poor living conditions.

Then they take their best educated, logical, cogent guess and come up with a list of anywhere from one (1) to 20 flu's that may make it to the United States. They develop immunizations for each of these flu bugs.

Next they stick them into storage for the coming fall and break them out as the seasonal flu vaccine. So in each shot you may get anywhere up to 20 or even 25 flu immunizations. If you are later exposed to any of these flu's you will be immune and have no problem. If you are unlucky and get exposed to another flu that your body doesn't already know and wasn't in the vaccine, you get sick.

Basically you are playing the probabilities, as with all things in life.

As the flu bug quickly evolves and changes there is no single vaccine, although once immune to a particular strain of flu you are good to go for a very long time.

Some diseases do NOT mutate or evolve. Thus it is/was with polio. Polio has almost been wiped out due to massive vaccination campaigns.

There is always a small chance that doing something good can have reverse of the desired outcome. There have been a few people (statistically speaking) who have died because they were wearing a seatbelt. This does not negate the fact that by wearing a seatbelt we have a much greater statistical chance of surviving an auto accident. One cannot logically look at the probabilities and draw any conclusion other than "wearing a seatbelt increases the odds of survival", all things being equal.

Vaccines are the same way overall. If someone is allergic to eggs they cannot take the standard vaccines as I understand it. This means they get another form of vaccine if available.

The problem is anecdotal evidence that some good, well intentioned people use that is totally wrong. Say I get the flu shot every year for ten (10) years. In each year I am exposed to what I was vaccinated against 25 times and it worked 25 times. I do not get sick any of those times. However, I am unlucky and get exposed to other flu viruses that were not in the vaccine eight (8) times, thus I get sick 8 years out of 10.

I can come to the false conclusion that, "80% of the time I got sick with the vaccine. Therefore it doesn't work." This totally ignores the fact that the vaccine actually protected me 25 times that I do not know about! This can lead me to a false conclusion because I can never know how many times the vaccine really protected me.

Personally I believe the vaccines are of far greater good than harm even with the small chance of a bad side effect. We are always playing the odds in some way or another. I intend to be the casino in life not the pigeon walking in the door.

    Regards,

    Doug

Sorry I didn't read thru all the posts. My son who is 12 now has had all the vaccines and is a healthy boy. My wife had the same problem as you didwith this question. Growing up we didn't have a choice it was you got all the vaccinations that the government called for. I left it up to her because she researched them all and weighed the pros and cons of them. Like stated earlier they will need a full set to go to school. It is a hard choice to make and it is ultimately up to you and your wife (if married) to make. Good luck with the choices you have for a long time to come.

    Congrats BTW on your baby.
