Or, if I pull a gun and tell them to knock it the hell off. as someone mentioned upthread, Jetgirl I believe, just because I pull a gun does not mean I have to fire it.

This is true. But you've also escalated a situation needlessly (IMO). However, as you pointed out, this could be different if you were infirm and continued blows would be deadly and leaving the area could not be accomplished quickly.

I'm not saying pulling a gun is a terrible idea, just that I think there are better alternatives for most people.

Agreed, for most people. I would probably start beating the guy with that little piece of plastic you use to separate your groceries from theirs or with a bag of gummi worms

The first punch? No, that's not grounds to draw your gun.
What if that punch was a full on hard-as-the-guy-can-swing... and lands on a woman's face?

What if the guy was a 30something bodybuilder type and the lady was twice that old and not so fit?

    Can opened...worms EVERYwhere.

I remember the old days when we settled things like this with our fists and the loser walked away bruised and a little embarrassed and many times the two became friends afterward. Is it a reflection of today's gun-owner society that now so many would rather quickly settle alpha-male arguments with a gun where the loser is taken away in a body bag and the winner spends the rest of his life in prison over a spot in a check-out lane?

Have you read this thread? I'm guessing probably not.

Let me reiterate my prior post. We're not in grade school anymore. The streets and sidewalks are not covered by nice, soft grass or wrestling mat. I have personally seen a man get punched in the face, one time, and fall down and hit his head on the pavement. He went into a coma. People die from being punched in the face.

Personally, I think it would be irresponsible to engage in any kind of physical confrontation while carrying a firearm on your person. You could get your butt handed to you, lose your gun amid the fighting, etc...etc.
I would definitely draw down on a person who punched me, because in my experience it rarely stops at one punch. Actually, the only time I've seen it end at one punch is when the guy is knocked out, and even then it rarely stops at one punch. So the only responsible thing to do is draw on the guy.....imho....you can not remain in control of your firearm if you are throwing fisticuffs.

Now if I wasn't carrying, I'd hand him his booty on a platter....

The gun owner more than likely has a family at home that counts on him to be there and provide for them . He did what he felt was necessary to protect himself. You never know what people are going to do now. Why even carry if you can't defend and protect yourself?

    Good luck.

This past summer there was a man killed by a single punch at a bar in Dugger. Guy fell and hit his head on the floor, died enroute to ER.

The lady's name is Summer Glau. Pic's are from the TV show Terminator - Sarah Conner Chronicles. Didn't last long.

My response in that situation. Assuming I would go wait in line like that (big assumption). If I were faced with a belligerent adult male and he committed assault and battery against me. I would unclasp and unholster my CC to more easily protect myself should the battery continue.

    Yea!
I amazed after reading some of these posts. Why do you carry a firearm?

If someone hit me with force anywhere at all I will asume the worst and
    draw.

Ill be dammed if I let someone beat my ass while Im carrying no way!

I did not read all of these replies, but am going to give my :twocents: after reading the article. First of, my reply is, "no", I would not draw a firearm if punched in the face. Getting your arse kicked and pulling a firearm to up the anty is not the right direction. If you are going to carry a firearm, you need to know how to use your hands and feet first. Followed up by pepper spray or a flashlight. Going from fists to a gun is not the right solution. In a situation such as this, one misbehaving in line at a popular store, a fight erupts, keep in mind of others on the scene. If gunfire were to break out, take into consideration of your target and beyond. Too much collateral damage and lawsuits to go around.

Take the strike/punch. You have plenty of witnesses to nail the scumbag who hit you. Be a man and suck it up. Let law enforcement deal with the offender. Hopefully, store cameras will also have video to back you up.

Escalating to deadly force for a minor combative scenario is a major mistake. And one too many of the younger generation are willing to take and gives them a one way ticket to the penitentiary.

Take your licks as they come. But train to be a better and well rounded fighter, defender and peacemaker.

I'm approaching 60 years old, have had multiple back, neck and arm surgeries.
I don't get around like I used to, So by your logic/rules, I am no longer allowed carry a weapon to defend myself or my family because I can no longer stand toe-to-toe with a thug and duke it out? I should just stay in my house and hide? BS! :xmad:
I know (knew) how to use my hands and feet but they no longer cooperate. Uncle Sam taught me a lot of things, but he didn't teach me how to stay young.
It catches up to us all. We aren't all the same age or possess the same abilities, so put away that broad brush you're wielding.

I am with you At 70 years old I have no respect for anyone that would punch me in the face at all. I carry because I am no longer able to resist attack by thugs. I am able to shoot well though and have practiced many hours to do so.

I really can't say what I would do, it just depends on the facts at the time. I can say though that I have a history of back problems that includes surgery...a serious physical altercation carries a lot more risk for me than it would for someone without my issues, so what might be unreasonable for you, might be quite reasonable for me.
