Totally hypothetical since I don't have a shotgun yet but I could go for something like a Remington 870 Tactical Desert Recon 12G, 18" OD Powder Coat.

My dad just gave me his mossberg 500 hes had before I was born. It has been his only shotgun for years. Never a single problem, jam, nothing.

As for dogs... cant beat a brittney spaniel. We have 2.
