Bobcat Season?

In one breath you're saying we have to manage them so they don't get wiped out. In another breath you're saying land owners shouldn't have to follow nuisance permit laws. So if there is an open season and the landowner has an issue outside of that season, then all bets should be off on nuisance permits because it "doesn't appeal to anyone with skin in the game"?

Are you familiar with current laws on coyotes?

With no season and protected status, nuisance permits are near worthless unless you have a consistent animal coming in. Establish a management plan which includes hunting/trapping and nuisance allowances just like coyotes and everything will be just fine. Landowners won't have to resort to SSS, DNR will collect massively more population data from harvests than through studying live animals and make money via license sales which will go right back to helping manage them. The animals will have a more secure place in the Indiana ecosystem, hunters and trappers will be involved in managing numbers, the state makes money and wildlife lovers get to see an occasional cat in the wild.

A lot of good supporting data that had never been presented before, obviously the entire state is not overrun with Bobcats as some wanted others to believe!

Good to see the Tappers of the state get to control the problem areas.

Its not difficult to call a CO and let them know you have a nuisance issue. At that point, you can deal with it. But needing to have an open season because Bubba feels like they're a problem is just dumb. Let the experts who have data and facts determine what's best for the animal.

A fox killed nine of our chickens in under two minutes. A phone call isn't much help.

They have, trapping season isn't far off and hunting will be next. Just like the experts recommend.

We've explained I great detail how a season benefits the people and the cats and yet you refuse to be swayed or even consider the evidence presented.
And it was the experts who decided you need three vaccines that aren't really vaccines as far as their actual effectiveness is concerned. And did it without facts or real science. The experts need us to keep them in line. Do your part.

I have zero issues with someone keeping a cat they accidentally trapped. I do have issues opening a season on something that doesn't need to be hunted or managed.

Are you good with hunting bald eagles and hawks since they're no longer endangered? They're killing all of my rabbits that I hunt (purposely exaggerated). Clearly they need managed...

Geriann Albers, INDNR Furbearer Biologist, will be at the Indiana State Trappers Association convention this Friday and Saturday presenting on bobcats, otters, and Gray Fox 11:30-12:30.

Might be worth attending for anyone who contests the overdue season we have coming up next year @Purdue1991
