I guess that could depend on our individual spheres of influence. I don’t see it equal. On both sides, I see the petty, the childish, the name calling, sure...that’s equal. But in my sphere, I don’t see conservative/libertarian types that are the largest demographic, wishing people dead. That’s next level vitriol, there. I’m not naive enough to believe there’re 0 instances of it from loonies on the right, I’m just saying in my window on the world, I don’t see it.

The incivility, yes. The cancel culture, yes.

The wishing harm/death on others, no.

It is apparent that you guys are unfamiliar with 4Chan.

I am aware of 4chan, but I don't pay attention to it/them. As far as I'm aware, they are general internet trolls, and not particularly ideologically based. And I'm not aware of 4chan wishing harm/death on people.

Nazi-larping on an anonymous image board is not representative of any general population.

There's a distinction between being edgy and having true death-level hate toward a group.

...and I'll defer to Adam here; I trust his familiarity with/understanding of 4chan more than my own.

On my way home from DC Wednesday, I sat two seats behind Eric Holder on the airplane (and on the ground at LGA he used the urinal next to me, and same for the sink). It really wasn't that difficult to follow my mother's maxim: If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all.

Clearly, some people never learned that lesson. It exists on both sides of the ideological spectrum, but at least for the last several years, it appears far more violent/virulent when coming from the left.

You should have at least peed on his leg...... "Accidentally" :n00b:

I was there first! I even went around to the other side of the bathroom, to an entirely empty row of urinals. I'm doing my business, glance left, and the mustache was right there.

You got sort of a rugged sexiness going on... he might have been enamored.

Wait, so the people on 4chan are fake Nazis?

Gotta be more specific. There are 70 main boards, and hundreds of thousands of unique users. Probably not a ton of overlap with many of the boards, since some are very niche.

I doubt the people in the /lgbt/ board throw around the types of thoughts we're talking about, or the /(fa)shion/, /DIY/, /aut(o)/... etc.

Let me jump ahead and assume you're talking specifically about /pol/, or sometimes, /bant/ (international politics).

Those sorts of boards are magnets for edgy kids. They're huge boards, and everyone likes to think they know everything about politics and how the world works. So of course the edgy ones are going to throw around a lot of anti-black, anti-Jew, anti-everything one-liners because the place is minimal moderation, and they get their jollies on it.

You'll rarely find a deep conversation about anything, and if so, it's usually seemingly between a few people that are knowledgeable about a specific subject, like the economy.

Here's a sample of some of the currently top threads in /pol/:

    Corona Virus General #1677
    President Trump General
    "Should prostitution be legalized?"
    "Is Christianity a ****-****** religion?"
"Why do people believe in God?"
    Panic Buying
    "Is Russia Left or Right?"
    Epstein Island Game Project

That's not everything, filtered out some of the low-effort, low-participation racist threads.

The place is full of views from all over the spectrum, so I can't really see pinning a specific label on them, and I can hardly find a reason to take anything there seriously. It's for the banter, the edge, the boredom. And sometimes, they can come together to do good.

One thing about minimal moderation (outside of illegal content)... it probably does favor people that are 1A-minded, anti-censorship. That is becoming a larger group lately, of both left and right-minded people.

I think you have a lot more discipline than me. I'd just really like to ask him whose wing-man is he now?

Wait, so the people on 4chan are fake Nazis?

4chan is an anonymous troll convention... that versus real name postings of death wish on Twitter?

I've only ever seen purge-happy progressive/socialist/communist examples in the real name world of social media.

MSM must be non-covering the conservative/right/alt-right death wish posts on real name social media to avoid bringing them to light. It's a conspiracy.

Couldn't really think of another thread for this

State pushes to list white supremacist group as terrorist org

The State Department is pushing to designate at least one violent white supremacist group as a foreign terrorist organization, an unprecedented move that national security experts say would be a big step toward fighting a growing threat on U.S. soil.

State Department officials want to have the designation finalized by next week, according to four people familiar with the effort. But the White House, where top officials have long preferred to focus on terrorism by Islamist extremists, has yet to give the green light.

Former U.S. officials and counterterrorism analysts say the top candidate for the designation is Atomwaffen, a neo-Nazi group that was founded in the United States but has expanded into the United Kingdom, Canada, Germany and Estonia.

Antifa only reacts to the threat from the alt right white supremacists, Nazi's and KKK.

They are generally peace loving people that are close to their moms.

So I can visualize an endgame where it is leaked that State wants to do this and then the fake story is how Trump wouldn't let them do it because he's a secret white supremacist. I can't see where AtomWaffen is an important enough player to merit this on their own

Edit: Anti-defamation League estimates 24 to 36 members, some estimates go as high as 80
